I'm not even remotely a mechanic, but I don't think it'll fit.

It May not without serious modifications, it may not be the right vehicle to put one in. It would be cool though, besides I have a 94 XJ with about 300k on the IL6 that it will fit in. I still want one.

Of course it's the right vehicle! Spin the engine 90-degrees, 3-pedal with a Tremec 5 or 6 speed, 4-link Ford 9", big tubs and shoes out back. Sounds perfect to me!

Dont forget the Mustang II front end. Although If you fabricate much , you could really put aftermarket 70s Maverick control arms with coilovers under the factory strut towers.

or you could just get a Focus 2.3L 350HP engine that would bolt in and actually work

Now, THAT is a build that I would like to see someone attempt someday. It would be interesting to see what transmission that they would mate it to, though.

The ECM and BCM are so integrated that unless we're talking about a dedicated non-highway race vehicle, there's a lot of compromises that would happen if you tried to put a Focus RS drivetrain in a Maverick. Braking, infotainment, drive modes.

Best hope is that Ford releases a Maverick ST or something with more horsepower, preferably with a 2.3, in MY24. It's technically possible to have it as late availability for MY23 but I think time is running out for Ford to announce that. Bronco Raptor was announced early '22 as a late availability '22, orders in March or April, deliveries started July. Just using that as an example, I don't know anything about a Maverick ST other than I hope it happens someday.
