Blown Around on Highway - Or Just Me?

My other vehicle is an Explorer. It is a kite compared to the Maverick.

Frustratingly, the Maverick tech specs does not state suspension travel. But due to the payload capacity, I would bet the Maverick has much longer suspension travel than your '09 Escape. Therefore you'll get more sway in the wind.

The only thing that bothered me was the hood flutter. It still exists a small amount after the "fix".

Hood flutter definitely makes me nervous. What did you to do "fix" it?

Hey everyone, just looking for everyone's $0.02 on this topic. This is my first truck and I am unsure if this is a normal thing or something more unique to the Maverick.

My previous vehicle I owned for 13+years was a 2009 Ford Escape 3.0L that I put on over 210k miles with. In regards to the size differences they are actually fairly similar +/- a few inches here and there. Height, width... all similar, but the Maverick 1ft longer (but to me not major difference). The main difference is the Maverick weighs significantly more.

Here's where my question comes in. Is it just me, or on the highway/highway speeds, does the Maverick seem to get "blown" around by strong winds, or passing 18wheelers etc. I feel that with my Escape which has a bigger side profile due to the SUV shape, would have more surface area for cross winds and such to blow it around, but I notice it a lot in the Maverick, more than I ever remember experiencing in the Escape. My driving style has not changed, the roads I take, etc. Nothing has changed yet I feel like the Maverick kind of gets pushed around a lot more than my old Escape.

So that's where I am wondering if maybe somehow its just me noticing each stronger wind pushing me from side to side, or if this is common with driving a truck.

Should have got a Hybrid, lower CG: was that worth 2¢? LOL Seriously I wonder how a Tourneau cover would effect that. In my mind of weird theories removing the chance for a cross wind to hit the inside portion of the bed seams like it would help.

I have never noticed any blowing around up to 85 MPH.

Maybe you are driving faster than this?

Hood yes, truck no!

But seriously its probably ride height. The higher it is the more air gets under it. More air under, lighter on the road, longer body, extra succeptible to crosswind. Its a combination of things. Not a problem if you are holding the wheel though. i would never really trust self driving systems. Wind is way too unpredictable.

We haven’t noticed an issue with the tremor package so far. But we will be testing it out some more soon.

I think it really just in comparison to low riding cars. I didnt have any problems , but I've never had a really aerodynamic vehicle either.

Again I appreciate all your messages. This isn't a every time I drive on the highway issue. Just fairly windy days I notice side to side a lot more than what I can recall in my Escape. Not like a "white knuckle holding onto the steering wheel for dear life with a death grip" issue, but definitely a both hands on wheel paying attention issue.

The truck suspension/shape differences etc all sort of make sense to why it would move more, but I was just looking to see if others notice the wind blowing the truck around as much as I apparently notice. More than likely this issue is just because its a brand new vehicle, and a style (truck) I have never driven before. Just a give it time and I wont even notice it because I will be used to it, type of situation.

Similar to the OP I had 20 years in Escapes ('02 and '12) prior to the maverick. Yes, very similar vehicles but my 4K/FX4/Ecoboost seems to have a more favorable ride.
I have not had any real buffeting on the highway from other vehicles any worse than in the Escape(s).
I do have people constantly ride up to my left rear quarter panel and hang there. Assuming they are oogling my awesome truck?

My first day driving from dealer on interstate could feel tuck sorta wiggling in its lane. I thought it was something of the AWD features, it trying figure which wheel/axle to apply the drive motion.
However now have 1,000 miles clocked on it, never feel or worry over any wiggling.

I did something similar to that thread, only I just used thick weatherstripping that secured to the top of what already exists. I placed some thicker and taller stuff around the top and made sure it came in contact all the way across the top of the hood, then I used smaller and thinner strips around the sides of the hood as well. I noticed a lot of water was getting in but it was mostly at the car washes and such. Either way, the weatherstripping helped a lot.

There is also a thread about adjusting the dampener's at the front, but I had already done that after my bug deflector install. If you scroll to the bottom of that thread there are similar threads like it with other suggestions.
