My plan is to trade this at 7.5 years or 90,000 miles. Right now, I’d get another one. We’ll see how I feel 6-7 years from now.

Hmmm - could the extra price increase for HVB replacement be all the 1-time use bolts?

Like - 8 of them...

Ohhhh - and wiring harness clips that are 1-time use too. Lot of wires dealing with HVB.
And coolant hose clips.
Nickel and dime on up an extra 3000.

Typical if not abused.

Abuse:

a) long periods of non-use
b) frequently above 120°F (storage or use)
c) frequently below -20°F (storage or use)
WHAT?! Then why are these things sold where I live?!?

it’s regularly -30c here most of the winter and occasionally -40c! Am I expected to keep this in my living room and not drive it all winter?

outrageous!

i just looked up the hybrid battery warranty (8y/100K). my personal experience with two hybrids before is they begin to go bad around 150,000 miles, so that is my expectation.

but the part where someone quoted you $6,000 for a hybrid battery replacement seems like it is missing information, like perhaps other components and/or services are bundled into the final price.

i would guess a new battery plus professional installation will run you ~$2,500 out the door
And used low mileage batteries are about $600.

I think it depends on area you live. I live in S. CA. The dealer charge was over $5500, and the local hybrid repair shop charge was almost $4000. ($3000 new battery & $800 labor).

I have a 2023 Maverick XLT hybrid. I drive 600 - 800 miles a week, and I have 130,000 miles in 2.5 years. Two weeks ago, I had an engine light and a service light come on with P0B24 code, I took the car to dealer. They said the battery was bad and needed to replace it. The estimate was almost $6,000. I had a $6000 extended warranty, but the battery was not covered. The CA hybrid battery law has 10 years/150,000 miles warranty, but the Ford did not honor the law. I am going to fix at local hybrid repair shop at $4000. You can find a cheaper refurbished battery around $1,000 to $1500, but I drive a lot, I decided to replace a new one. The Maverick is a new car, and it is not easy to find a good refurbished battery. The hybrid shop mechanic said the battery starts going bad around 130,000 miles depends on driving condition and model. I also wished to drive around 200,000 miles, but not this car. I had 2016 Sonata Hybrid, and the battery was fine until I sold it at 190k miles. I also found on google that the Maverick battery was designed to last at least 150,000 miles.
I wrote a reply to this question yesterday. You can get a battery out of a wreck with low mileage on ebay for under $1500. These are not refurbished, OEM is the way to go.

A used battery out of a wrecked Maverick sold online by someone who warranty's it to do nothing? The closest seller of used batteries to me doesn't sell Maverick hybrid batteries probably because used ones are hard to get. Maybe in another 5 years there will be some but then you are buying a 5 to 9 year old battery.
Go on ebay, plenty of batterys from wrecks for under $1500. All low mileage!

$6k to replace a $2k hybrid battery sounds about right for a dealership disservice center.
BUT, there is a FACTORY 8yr/100k warranty on the battery. A dealership that is not honoring the factory warranty needs to be reported. File a complaint with FORD regional service manager, not the dealership (they are just a private business with a contract allowing them to sell/service Ford vehicles, as I like to say; 7/11 is not owned by Doritos).

It should be noted that this battery lasting that long is pretty good, most 12v starter batteries go 4-6 years before you need to replace them. I've had a couple that last 8+ years.
Since the hybrid battery is barely larger than the capacity of an average 12v starter battery, 1kWh = 84ah @ 12v, it should not be a very expensive battery. Used rebuilt ones are around $1000, and new ones bought from Ford are $2200-2800 depending on the source.

Some back-of-the-napkin math on whether the hybrid was still worth it:

If we just assume the EPA combined MPG for an EB FWD and a hybrid FWD for 130,000 miles of driving (25mpg EB, 37mpg hybrid) and gas is $4.00 a gallon...

EB:
Gallons used = 130,000/25 = 5,200 gal
Cost = 5,200*$4 = $20,800

Hybrid:
Gallons used = 130,000/37 = 3,513.5 gal
Cost = 3,513.5*$4=$14,054

Cost difference:
$20,800-$14,054=$6,746

So even with a $6,000 battery replacement, the hybrid is still ahead $746 and you had better cruising range. Though your actual lifetime MPG plus actual fuel costs could swing the difference one way or another.

If gas is $2.80 a gallon, that drops the cost difference to $4,722. So as long as you could get a hybrid battery done for less than that, you're still in the black and had more cruising range to boot.

Yeah I saw them on eBay plus shipping, plus no warranty. So if that battery fails in 31 days, sorry Charlie. I don't have an hybrid but I would be leery of an eBay used battery. Those sellers are just that, sellers not battery companies.
Yeah a hybrid battery is something that I wouldn't chance. Lower-value durable hard parts, sure. Like, I bought a factory airbox assembly for my F-150 on eBay for $40 shipped from a salvage yard. Not even worth it to try the local Pick-n-Pulls at that price.

BUT, there is a FACTORY 8yr/100k warranty on the battery. A dealership that is not honoring the factory warranty needs to be reported.
I don't think there is a case here? It's 8 years/100k, whichever occurs first. At 130k, the mileage has been exceeded.

Does not mean it won't run.
It means it will not last as long.

And Yes.
You are recommended to at least park in a garage and/or use an engine block heater in winter. Doing this, even in an unheated garage (but still with plug-in heater) will work wonders.

Wait. Canadian?

Sounds like you ‘Allowed’ a dealer to screw you over.
130,000 miles is way too soon for any manufacturer’s battery to fail.
Used to work with a guy who drove 80K a year in a Prius he bought used with 50,000 miles.
He replaced the power battery at 275,000 miles because its range was degrading. Imagine that !
He drove that Prius to 500,000 miles and traded in on a new one.
The dealer kept his car as a demo and told customers the battery was replaced for $2,100 at 275K.
Most freaked out that the car lasted a half million miles.
He " Allowed " the dealer to screw him.....lmao. How does it always turn into a fault by the customer when you have obvious failure. A Terd is a Terd.
