Congrats on escaping the crippled walled garden.
If you get a Pixel phone, you'll love Ai that actually does things, the wonderful camera features and the phone app's spam blocking features.
If you opt for a Samsung Galaxy, the new one's processor speed, the Ai and the battery management blow apple out of the water.
And Android's bluetooth and AA connect to the Maverick' Infotainment system faster than you can clear the truck's annoying nag screens.
Thank you. Yes, I am sure those are great phones but I am much to cheapish to spend that kind of money on a phone. Looking at the Samsung A16 on Amazon for $175.00 new. Even at that price point it makes me swallow hard, but Samsung is guaranteeing 4 version updates in the future. :cwl:

Had the rear camera software updated today plus the driver's side seat belt recall done.

My initial observations:

The screen is definitely brighter. No question about it. Noticed it right off getting into the truck with the FORD emblem splash screen.

The brightness adjustment bar in settings still does not change after 50% but who cares really. I think some will actually find it too bright and will be turning it down now.

Apple CarPlay boots up much faster now and operates smoother as well. I would expect Android Auto to be the same. I hope so as I will soon be leaving the dark side and purchasing an Android phone.

Last, but not least, I used to notice slight little pauses in the back up camera more often than not, nothing major but it was there. After testing it a couple of dozen times the operation is much smoother.

Dealer recommended I start using a battery tender as the battery checked out good but at 50%.

All in all I would say, so far everything is much better than it was. The whole process took an hour and a half this morning and cost the dealer 2 cups of coffee and two nice fat jelly creme donuts.
Looking forward to a brighter screen this was my biggest pet peeve!

Hello, I took my truck in for a new Windshield and while they had it did the audio System recall and I noticed a difference. The screen looks so much brighter and clearer. It seems to respond to my touch really well so I am happy

Yes, everything is much brighter. CarPlay loads faster, runs smoother and quicker. If the phone is left plugged in and the truck is shut off for a short period of time CarPlay will restart once the truck is started. I used to have to unplug it and plug it back in.

I find it interesting that those that claim to NOT see these improvements seem to be 2024 model year owners. I wonder what the story is there.

Ohhhhh - I forgot about that positive to bringing it in compared to mobile tech.
The 2 guys in the van didn't bring any treats or such for me!

3rd week of dealership doing them remote, not sure why 2 guys needed still but the younger did mention they had a few issues getting the upgrade to go thru for some trucks, so perhaps still being trained, or other guy trained, no idea.
Took them about 60 min.

I just reviewed my before/after videos - I don't notice the brighter on software version screen I started with, or the video feed.
I almost thought I saw a tad better straight back imagine, but actually it's still skewed like it was.
Just a tad more right bumper seen than left.
These probably weren't the guys to correct that anyway, and I've never tested extreme if it affects the guidelines and position enough to matter.

If you frequently use FM - have you noticed if it's good about starting up on the preset screen?
Mine changed, except for once, always back to the Radio and Connect Phone 2 button screen, I have to tap Radio to see the info and presets.
CAlled my dealer yesterday, and they are not accepting appointments yet for the camera recall? Said i would receive another letter? Sounded like BS to me.

Ok I got 4 mins in, and gave up. What are the cliff notes?
Lol. Basically: lugging the engine is bad. Manufacturers are programming transmissions to lug the engine intentionally to achieve EPA mpg requirements. Manufacturers know lugging is bad for the engine and also annoying to the driver. Manufacturers are installing transmission components ( double clutches, vibration dampeners ) in the hope the customer doesn't notice the lugging. Hence if you notice lugging it is probably worse than you realize.
My own 2 cents: complaints to the dealer are pointless since the lugging is "normal".
Yours ( and mine) best bet is to find a work around. My work around is switching to tow mode the first time the engine lugs at low speed driving. I added a tactile sticker to drive mode button so I can press it without looking down. It has become second nature.
The best option would be a new transmission tune but that would no doubt cause warranty issues.

Interesting. So you're saying they're gearing them lower than they should? Akin to putting it in 3rd gear in a stick and it giving you 1200 RPMs or something vs the normal 2000-2500?

Betting we already had an update to prior models. I compared again, same brightness level.
No compare on carplay sadly.

Old Radio Software Version:
G2.2.0.1_R23021A
Revision:
(G2.2.0.1_PRODUCT_GG)

New Version:
G2.5_R25074B
Revision:
(G2.5_PRODUCT_GH)

Forscan doesn't give a verson number for the Audio Control Module (ACM) on it's own, which likely would have had a change in version too since the above is likely just the radio part of the software.

I've had a bit of luck with the lugging issue using 91 octane gas. Kind of an expensive fix if one drives a lot but I only drive about 3500 miles a year. I too am not willing to risk the warranty with a tune.

Exactly. I drive about 3500 miles a year and currently have 5000 on the clock. I just changed the oil, which had 3500 miles on it and the oil life meter read 1%.

The Mobil One oil looked good but the 1 year was up and the oil life indicator seemed to know that.

Not a big deal by any means as my oil changes are calendar driven not miles driven.
After the OLM went under 50% the Fordpass started giving an estimated date of 1 year.
Over 50% it was on target for almost 14 months and estimated 10K.

Now at 5% and annoying reminders, the estimated miles is under 10K but right at 1 year.

And that estimated 10K period was during spring/summer and I was close to trips being about 50% electric miles, so 5K on the engine. Which it's going to end up being close to now.

I do no towing, or extended idling or winter warmups except for a few days of windshield ice heat.

@Flyangler - thanks for good news on tire longevity - I was curious what was possible.
And agree you got a goofy dealer.

Yes, exactly, short shifting. Tow mode will put you in 2k range with only the occasional over-rev when braking downhill.

I run 91/93 only, also. I still get occasional lug, especially below 32 deg f. ambient air. I believe the FX4/4K tow suffers more from lugging due to final drive gearing, maybe.

Well I received a letter from Ford Motor Company telling me to take my 2023 Maverick in to fix it and I did. They also replaced the Windshield while they had it. Got it back and when I started it WOW IT LOOKED SO MUCH BRIGHTER. Did you receive a letter from Ford? Best of luck

I received the recall notice that advised me to call the dealer. Sounds like a good recall fix. Thank you
