It makes me miss my VW that had the camera hidden behind the emblem until in reverse. It was always clean an clear in all weather.

I've never driven a vehicle where the rear camera doesn't get dirty when driving on wet roads. SUVs, trucks, cars, all are bad.

v1 needed trimming, it still leaves a vignette, but I will test and see if this helps direct water away from it.

If this doesn't work, I am going to completely rebuild the badge and 3d print one that matches my black maverick better.

Just wondering, how the hood has been working out or have you moved onto the rebuild the badge stage?

I saw a video somewhere that said rubbing the lense with a cut potato will make the lense hydrophobic. I don’t know if it works. Got a spare potato?

Sounds crazy enough that it just might work.

The problem is not that rain falls onto the camera, but that the vehicle has truck aerodynamics. The water generally blows up the tailgate instead of down from the top. A rainshield on top will just create a small air-pocket that will trap even more dirty water.

Maybe just make it a daily habit to do a quick "swipe with a rag" over the lens before driving off! This way it should be clean for each initial drive.

Dumb question, but wouldn't one of the tailgate emblem rings extend the trim out far enough to keep most of the water off the camera? - Seem like they'd basically accomplish the desired outcome?

Most of the time the drops are enough to both me when reversing, although maybe it's my compulsion of applying the hybrid(ceramic) wax to the emblem & camera, as well as the tailgate, which helps minimize the issue? - Or having the tonneau, or cab spoiler affecting the air flow against the tailgate?
