Called my dealer to schedule. They said not to have the recall done unless I was having a problem because if I had it done now and the problem showed up later, I could not have it fixed under the recall. Sounds wrong.
Doesn't sound right. Ir you are part of the recall, it should be done. Sounds like they are making shit up and not following Ford Corporate. Call Ford customer care and talk to them. Also call another dealer and have it done.

took 2 hours today. 23 xlt. Still useless. Rear image looks dirty even though the lens is clean. Will have to investigate more.
Is it possible they reduced the video resolution so that the existing processing power in the head unit is sufficient to show the video without freezing?

Hey NedF, This was an issue before the recall fix. I waited thinking the fix might clear the image. The outside of the image is blurrier than the center like there is dirt or moisture internally. Back to Ford.

So probably a defective camera. Thankfully I missed this recall as I have the sync 3 Unit. I am glad they seem to have found a fix for your trucks. Now I hope they concentrate on getting the 12v battery fix out for those of us driving with a battery on borrowed time!

Got it back this morning. HayBales You were dead on. I asked again why this can't be done remote and he said it was a dealer manager decision worried about screwing up a vehicle away from the shop and not having the resources there to fix it.
I had to warn the service manager making the appointment to confirm they bring a battery backup/tender due to my battery being unable to support 1 hr of being key on Acc mode.
Maybe they turn the key to On, in which case the HVB would join in the fun.
But he didn't know.

He also didn't understand at first, he thought I meant to save my radio stations or settings.
I said no, while nice that's not what I mean.
My 12V battery is in such a bad state if they start a firmware update my battery is likely to cause truck to shut off the 12V system and kill the module - I asked if he'd ever seen phone or computer upgrade warning to NOT turn off while it's happening.
He got the point and said they could check the battery while there - I said great but probably requires your bigger tester at the shop.

Someone posted a repair manual image showing the camera's were the same model in the Sync3 and the non-Sync3's.
And it showed the wire going straight to the APIM for Sync3 - or our pitiful module.
Which would seem to mean while that would be a great idea, there is no other module in the path to take on that processing load to provide less video data to deal with.
It takes CPU cycles to upscale or downscale nicely - I guess they could have done it not so nicely but quick and dirty, and effectively lowered the CPU load among other changes.

I'll try to remember to video my common backing up at work, before and after, to compare.
Thanks for heads up on that!

Well, yesterday I finally got my new Mav after they did the recall fix, and replacing a leaking fuel hose. However, today the camera image froze and stayed that way for 1/2 mile then the infotainment rebooted. So much for the "fix". Good thing I don't care about that camera. Got a hundred miles on it.

A "Fixed" backup camera that is still freezing actually is a big issue.

Now that you've taken delivery of your truck. FORD cannot take and hold it hostage waiting for the repair.
Whether it bothers you or not.
The responsible thing to do, is to make FORD aware of the camera still freezing.

Lol we might see a recall to a recall.
It won't take much if complaints start to roll into the correct streams...

Mine is working ok so far. The image hasn't frozen and the picture is actually pretty good, but no warning chime if anything gets close while backing up. Is that normal for the Mav or another glitch?

rear proximity sensors are optional, but most trucks do have them. if you have them you'll see the circular devices in the rear bumper. I think there's 4 but I haven't stared at the rear bumper recently. 😆

Rear proximaty sensors were only on Lariats and part of that package, not optional. I don't know if the 25's will finally get them on the front (like most vehicles that have them).

I'm thinking it's a glitch. The only reason I say that is when I have my car in reverse if a car is coming from either direction the arrows light up and you hear it ding ding ding ding ding ding sound. Now I had my wife walk behind me while I was backing up and it never made a sound. So if you're referring to vehicles coming by it should make a noise if it's people I don't think it does.

As long as the rear bumper is out far enough for the sensors to pick up movement, I believe my 23 xlt alarms with a displayed Arrow when people are Crossing behind the truck.
Next time I'm in town if I think about it, I'll try and make a video.

My XLT with Co-pilot 360 will pick up a vehicle coming from the side but does not have proximity sensors to keep from backing into stuff. Not sure how fast/big an approaching person would have to be to trigger the alarm. Be interesting to see what Glen can show us.
