Poster found a back seat night light in their 120V plug also prevents it from running.
May be other options when you have the inverter option. If you don't have that - never mind.

Having heat on or AC running will prevent it from coming on.
My '22 doesn't care what setting you have the cabin temps set to or what system is in use. It shuts down religiously unless defeated by the switch every time I start it.

Who is intimidated by forscan??? lol You need more that just a $20 forscan license. You need a laptop to run it and an OBD adaper. If you plan on using forscan for a lot of stuff it would be worth it to have, but kinda dumb to buy everything for one issue that is easily solved without it.
You don't have to buy a FORScan license, you can use the trial license any time you want. I've been using trail licenses for 14 years. If you have a laptop already like many people do, you buy a $30 OBD adapter, and you can make any changes FORScan allows you do make. If you don't have a laptop, maybe it's not the best option for you, but you can also buy a FORScan compatible laptop on the cheap since it's compatible with all versions of Windows as far back as 20 years.

It's fine if you want to buy a $20 part to do one thing. Why argue against paying a little more for an OBD adapter to do a lot more? Two options are better than one, don't you think? They both do the same job, and do it well. I'm sure anyone who reads this topic can make their own decision as to which option is best for them considering both cost and function.

The only way the AS&S automatic stop and start can be disabled permanently is with an add-on device. Maybe FORScan.
A low battery will also keep it from activating.
Or have a crappy battery. I didn't drive my Escape enough to to keep the battery charged enough to ASS to kick in. I didn't mind.....

you can search the forum using the term: auto start stop, and find tons of Hate/Love of the feature. (I'm a hater) but over the years my brain is programmed to push the start button, push the disable button, select gear every time. I understand it can be disable with that Forscan software some people use to change things in the computer or there are devices like the Auto Start Stop Eliminator that disables it.
thanks, i'll just have to program me.

I'll check the battery as well. Probably was , it started working regularly after a 4 hour drive to the outer banks.
Auto Stop start Working after a 4-Hour drive to the Outer Banks indicates to me that it was a low battery.

It probably hasn't been engaging in months because you have been using your heat. Having heat on or AC running will prevent it from coming on. If you have a hitch on your maverick you can put a hitch break light in. Having that connected to your trailer wiring will prevent the auto start/stop from engaging. Forscan isn't a long term solution. It will work until your truck needs a pcm update, then you would have to get it forscanned again.
Ok, good to know.

The auto shut off on my maverick hasn't been engaging in months( well at least one). And I don't want it to. Now it does every drive if I don't disengage it. Can it not be permanently disengaged?

On my 2025 XLT I had disabled mine with the button for months then suddenly it disabled by itself. That lasted for almost 6 months then suddenly I now have to use the button. Using heater or A/C had no affect. I don't have a low battery either.

Forscan can permatently delete it. I've done it on four Ford vehicles ranging in years from 2016-2025. No hardware change. If you have tow package I've heard plugging in a trailer dongle (7-pin or 4-pin) will accomplish same thing, truck thinks you're towing a trailer, inhibiting Auto Shutoff. I now have Hybrid so that feature absent.

If you plug in a trailer dongle it'll think you're towing something and will turn off BLIS and the rear sensors. Not a good recommendation. While that nuclear bomb will kill the mosquito, the collateral damage is pretty high....

Good point, tks for reminding me. Better to delete it with ForScan or the switch. Forgot about the BLIS & rear sensors.
