It's a mystery to me why Ford didn't design it to default into Eco mode on every start. Is there much difference in Eco and Normal modes?
In terms of the hybrid, eco increases regen braking and changes throttle response. I don't see any difference in mpg from normal and my total electric miles are essentially the same.

YMMV. Literally.

It is also acceptable to put the vehicle in drive or reverse and once you press the gas pedal it will automatically disengage the parking brake.

We were taught to do it this way for the Bronco at the Ford Bronco Off Roadeo Event.

Its also in the Maverick manual under Automatically Releasing the Electric Parking Brake

AUTOMATICALLY RELEASING THE ELECTRIC PARKING BRAKE

  1. Close the driver door.
  2. Shift into gear.
  3. Press the accelerator pedal and pull away in a normal manner.
Good tip. My issue with using this method is how the truck lurches out of the parking brake mode. I'm always a bit afraid of hitting something I'm too close to.

Perhaps because no matter what mode they set as a default, people would find fault.

I think ideally to have the default setting to remember and retain the last mode used when shut off would be a popular solution. Maybe somebody will come up with a harness for that like the Auto Stop-Start Eliminator (or a FORScan setting).

First time Hybrid buyer and loving the truck so far.

Was disappointed to learn you could not default it to start driving in ECO mode by default.

This simple trick is how I get it to happen:

Setup an iPhone shortcut that automatically announces “ECO Mode please” whenever your iPhone hooks up to CarPlay in that vehicle or connects to that vehicles BT.

This reminds me every time I start to go anywhere to switch over to ECO Mode
I did a similar shortcut to make my phone notification tone go off every time it disconnects from CarPlay so I'd quit leaving my phone in the truck!! 🙄

I now have myself trained that when I see a blue instrument cluster in the center, that's wrong. Usually remember right after starting now. If not, then within a few blocks down the road once I realize I am looking at a blue screen. Hit the selector 4 times and it turns greeny/blue. I pretty much use only ECO or Sport. Never normal anymore. It would be nice to change the default though.
Naranjita,

I noticed your build is the same as mine "Lariat - Luxury/2.0T/AWD/FX4/4K/360". That combo (or at least mine doesn't) have ECO or Sport Mode. I have Normal, Tow-Haul, Sand, Mud/Ruts, and Slippery. Either the FX4 or the 4K (can't remember which pkg triggers it) removes the ECO and Sport modes.

Did you reprogram yours with Forscan?

No, there isn't. At least not in my experience so far which makes the whole thing silly. But, I'm sure there are folks losing sleep over this, nonetheless.

Yep. I love ECO and Sport. Very easy to do and worth doing. The 4K tow rear end and Sport mode is a match made in heaven.

With a conventional parking brake, if you step on the gas with it engaged, you feel the Parking brake holding you back. It's the same with the electronic version - the parking brake is still engaged until you start moving, essentially, which the vehicle sees and only then disengages the parking brake.

It doesn't disengage when you shift out of park but rather when you step on the gas. Thus the lurching that's not ideal.
Thank you. I'm well aware of how a parking brake works and affects the operation of a vehicle. My post was in reference to stepping on the throttle to release the brake versus using the lever. I prefer the using the lever since my foot is on the brake pedal rather than the gas when the brake releases.

Why so defensive? All I'm saying is that there's an advantage to manually releasing the electronic parking brake instead of waiting until the car realizes you're trying to drive against the engaged parking brake, and only then releases it for you.

Which you don't seem to disagree with.

And for those following along, it's helpful to provide background, whether those directly involved in a conversation understand or not.

Like how the detectives on a TV show explain things that other detectives would already know, it's so the audience understands.

So what exactly is your problem with me?

My procedure is to disengage the electronic parking brake, switch to Eco mode, shift to Drive preferably unless I find myself somewhere I need to back out of, and then gently apply the throttle to release the brakes held by Auto Hold.
HOLY MOLY! Not sure how you got 'defensive" or "problem" with my reply. Nothing of the sort was intended. I wasn't questioning your decision on how to use the parking brake, I was merely voicing my own experience and preferences.

As for providing background, I provided the original post within my reply, so your claim that I did not is simply not true. https://www.mavericktruckclub.com/forum/threads/auto-eco-mode.11549/page-2#post-233040

Let's not create problems where none exist. I'm here to share ideas and comradeship with other Maverick owners with as much goodwill as possible. I had no intention of offending you.
