I tried searching this forum but couldn't find what I was looking for so hopefully this isn't a duplicate.

The other day I got into my truck in the morning, and all of the sudden my audio stopped working completely. I am seeing "Audio Off" where I would normally see my audio source, and the Audio tab on the bottom of the infotainment screen is not selectable. The Sound option is also disabled within the Settings menu. Additionally, the dashboard and steering wheel volume knob/media controls do not do anything.

Based on google searches, I have tried the following with no results:
- Soft Reset (Hold Power and next track buttons until reset)
- Factory Reset (through Sync settings)
- Checked all related fuses (do not see any that are blown)
- Pull the negative terminal on my battery for a few hours and then put it back

So far none of these things have worked so I am not really sure if there is anything else I can try. Unfortunately my truck is out of warranty so I am trying to avoid the dealer if possible.

I have a 2023 Lariat Tremor with only 15.5k miles (warranty expired Dec 2025)

Any help would be appreciated!

Got a OBD scanner?

Not sure if the free services by car parts places would do it since no money light on (DTC), so no hope of selling something.

But the scanner logs would show any modules not communicating when it inits, or if they already have an error about not receiving communication from something - it's sounding like the ACM module would show up on that list.

Ever had wires eaten by rodents, or seen evidence?

You checked the underhood fuse box too - like 24 & 41 for amplifier?
And the BCM fuse 17 for SYNC?
(if you unplug - does screen go off?)
23 may do that, though called audio unit.

You did all the other things that might be due to glitch. The fact even the settings are not available means the module isn't up to communicate to.
Some of those modules not hard to get to - sadly the programming is likely VIN specific and would require specialized programming.

I will give some of these a shot and report back thank you for the detailed response!

Long shot here, but do you have a wireless adapter plugged in for android or iphone auto? I ask because when I play music, voice mails, or other audio from my phone, it turns my truck audio to off and the only way I can turn it back on is to unplug the adapter.

I got the APIM (Accessory Protocol Interface Module) replaced in my Ford Bronco Sport's infotainment system under warranty. It manages the SYNC 3 software, Bluetooth connectivity, navigation (if equipped), and integration with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

unfortunately my truck is out of warranty but I had been eyeing the Sync 3 to Sync 4 12” screen upgrade which comes with the APIM…may consider doing that if it comes to it

I have experienced this issue several times. It is a common glitch; having no sound for a short while is not a big deal for me. The issue is resolved at the next drive cycle. It is part of the Maverick experience!

Any chance something got tweaked in Forscan and accidentally disabled the APIM somehow?

UPDATE: randomly started my truck a bit ago and my sound returned to normal after 4-5 days without any. So incredibly bizarre just hoping it doesn’t happen again!
