I sadly nicked the oil pan on my 2025 Ford Maverick AWD Hybrid, and it's leaking oil. I’m considering DIY. Has anyone tackled this yet? Would love to hear how it went.

Might be time to get a @RIVAL 4x4 skid plate...

Time to find out how good that flex seal stuff is

But I have successfully kept oil and transmission fluid contained with JB weld in the past... you really have to make sure it's clean though.

Yea I was planning to do a temp fix with JB weld.

Winter storm road debris went through the splash shield. It's pretty small but was enough to go through the pan.

I agree that JB Weld is strong enough to fix this depending on the extent of damage. I also agree that the area has to be super clean and not have oil residue on it, which is probably close to impossible without removing the pan, at which point...

Best bet get a service manual . Read the steps. See what is says . I would NOT risk JB weld if you could lose engine oil destroying the engine. Fix it right . Yes get skid plate if you go off road. Maybe one for battery too assuming anyone makes one. .

My son’s Mit GT 3000 tranny had a gear nut loosen, rubbed aluminum housing. Put a small crack at cover. Removed, degreased it. Did small V notch groove over cracked area.JB added. Fixed it. Held till we sold that heap.

How did you find the damage? Tiny puddle on clean garage floor? Big puddle on road at time of the event?
If its a tiny drip, doing a DIY fix should be a fairly safe solution.
I assume its an aluminum pan, maybe a professional welder could repair it. I have had boat prop repair shops repair my boat props in the past with good result. Good luck!

Thanks @HeyBales! That was the preview I was hoping for and tells me this is more than I want to bite off as a DIYer. Hoping to find a local shop to help and avoid the stealership.

Puddle in the driveway. I got it onto my lift to take off the splash shield for a closer look. I saw steady drops.

Wouldn't this be an insurance claim?

Yep, that's an option. I have a great rate and filing a claim would change that. Unless the labor estimate comes back as something ridiculous, I’d rather handle this out of pocket or with lots of beers and food for a much more skilled friend.

This would be my approach once the pan replacement option was eliminated. This and active surveillance!

Blue Magic QuikSteel vs JB Weld, One man's approach to aluminum oil pan damage.

Well, I thought my instruction steps seemed ridiculous for an oil pan.
Saw this yesterday for much cheaper part on a Toyota that also is more common - wow.
Just first 20 sec.
