Anyone getting shocked exiting their hybrid?

Hmmm- I get shocked in my FIT all the time (don’t have a Maverick yet), and it depends entirely on what shoes I am wearing. Not sure why no other car does it, but I know the shoes are key in not getting shocked.

And the seat material....my civic used to be very bad. The Yaris not too much

I get shocked pretty good when I wear sneakers but not wearing my work boots. And on occasion, when I wear my down filled puffy jacket. Doesn’t matter the type of day outside.

Have you tried driving naked?

It works for me ... in so many ways...

For the pleasure of others, I'm afraid. I work under the AC unit which everyone else insists on cranking to max all the time, and my position means I spend all day getting charged up due to the lack of humidity.

Try holding the key by the metal (or something else metal) and touching the door handle with it. I have gotten some pretty amazing arcs that way and don’t get shocked myself. You may have to find some other grounded metal on the Maverick because I think the handles are plastic.

A lot of it depends on the tires. The more carbon black in the rubber the more static builds up.

Static is built when you run against the material on the seat and floor. Your shoes determine if that static gets transferred to the ground.... But if you wear thick sole rubber shoes, the static stays on you until you touch something, at which point the static transfers from your fingers to the material (usually metal).

To avoid this, as you exit the car, put your left hand on the metal ring (or any metal on the car). Once you're out of the car you can let go.

By doing that, you're continuously transferring the static to the car so no static gets built up on your body.

So 1 out of 3 times, I exit my hybrid and I get a pretty good zap from what im assuming is electrostatic electricity. It Doesn't matter what clothes I wear and it doesn't happen in my other 2 vehicle's. Any tips or similar situations please post.

The only zap I get from my Hybrid is around noon every Thursday. 🥲 Zaps a little more hope out of me each and every time.

My 2002 Firebird did it to me badly while living in Colorado. I found that if I place my left foot on the ground and my calf/leg against the body as I'm getting out no shock. There is still movement of static electricity that way but you don't notice it because it's discharging more slowly as you get out of the vehicle.
