Yo, so the quick of it is is that my dealer is saying they do price protection by sending a check in the mail for the difference after all is said and done. Everything I've read/watched says they should lower it at the time of purchase. Any idea of to how this?

The preferred method is that they front the difference and get the money back later. But there are ways for them to set it up so that you get the check. Here is a photo of a form I have seen floating around. Don't recall who posted this originally, so.....sorry.....I stole it. I would be wary of going down this road. But if your dealer insists.....then insist that they give you something like this so it is all on paper and is clear what the expectation is.

Also......if they don't price protect then that means the sales tax you pay will be a bit higher. So if you care, negotiate that down.

That form is for rebates/incentives.

Yeah. That's why I don't like it. Haha. But if it was all I could get from my dealer, I would prefer it over something like a handshake.

Ford doesn't give dealers much direction on this. But they do tell dealers that for plan customers (AZDX), that using the original plan price OR using the updated plan price and refunding the customer later are both ok.
Ford gives no instructions to normal retail/MSRP customers.

Note, that the check will have to come from the dealer. If a vehicle is reported sold to the orginal customer who ordered it, the dealer will eventually (~4-6 weeks) get reimbursed from Ford for (basically) the difference btw the new invoice price and the current invoice price. So the dealer will get some amount (which probably won't be equal to the difference btw new MSRP and old MSRP, for example).

So either way is legitimate (I would say), but make sure the dealer is clear as to exactly what they will be sending you. And you'll probably want it in writing on the buyers order if they go that route.

That's a good point. I'll remember that.

Thanks for the info!

As well since your loan was increased by the amount of the price protection ask for the extra interest you are out. Give dealer the option to pay a lump sum or a check monthly for that interest.

@fordvideoguy For the dealers that are forcing the buyers to get a "refund" check instead of paying the protected price at purchase, do you know if they check includes the extra taxes that had to be paid?

I assume not.
