I have seen many post replys say something like: "Since the 2.5 hybrid engine is not running when the truck is in electric mode, the miles on the engine is< the odometer miles; and therefore you do not need to change the oil so often" . That seems to be logical; but the hybrid engine is constantly stopping and starting (even at stop lights). Don't think these are cold starts for the most part; but is that an issue ,or am I overthinking ? Comments/ your thoughts?

I think the oil life on the pass app is what to follow. Mine has been almost exactly 10k miles both times.

I'm almost at 5k miles since last oil change. Got about 60% oil life left. 10k I'll change.

The later starts after the engine is warmed up are not "cold"... Plus the engineering is getting better, and the oil weight is not what cars used to use.

I'm a change the factory oil early, with 5000 or less miles oil change interval kind of guy.

Time for popcorn
I changed factory oil at 2500 miles on my hybrid, and will continue to do it sooner than Ford recommends.

I said they were mostly not cold starts; so are you saying this is not something to worry about?

I’m at 2500 miles now. I think I’m going to land somewhere between 5k and 7.5k. I think that is a reasonable range.

I did my first oil change at 3000 mi on my hybrid to get the break in oil and metal specks out of there. I just did my second oil change 6000 mi later. The oil was a getting a little dark at that point so I'm going to settle at doing it every 5000 which will be twice a year with the amount of driving I do. It's a fairly easy oil change once you get the splash shield off. After watching a few youtubes about all the problems the 5.4L that's in my Expedition directly related to extending oil changes too far, I change it faithfully every 3K instead of the Ford recommended 7500 mi. Of course that's a totally different animal, I'm just saying the manufacture recomended interval is not always in the best interest of engine longevity. Those oil related issues don't start to rear thier ugly head until after 100,000 mi. (well out of warrany). If I had an Ecoboost Mav I would change it every 3000-4000, it's cheaper than a new turbo or a short block later on down the road. But to each thier own.

Just follow the oil life monitor. It takes many things into account, including how you drive, when deciding whether it's time to change the oil or not.
My truck is at just under 2500k and this is what Ford Pass is telling me right now. Basically a year of driving and estimating 6100k.

Me too. I'm an "every 12 months, regardless of mileage" guy, which seems to be between 4K and 5K miles.

The factory oil change interval is guaranteed by definition to get you through the warranty period, but I have different criteria than Ford does. If you want your powertrain to last a long time past the warranty, you should always change your fluids more often than the recommended interval. This is especially true for those gear cases with "lifetime lubricant" from the factory since their definition of "lifetime" and yours are likely somewhat different.

Can't argue with that!
