Another Lug Nut post, with a twist

I've read through just about every post here about lug nuts and couldn't find the answer to my question. I have a 2023 Lariat Lux Hybrid, that comes with the 18" alloy rims. I picked up a set of stock Steel Wheels from a Maverick XL and went to swap them out yesterday and ran into an issue with the lug nuts. Specifically, the wheel cap for the steel wheels won't lock onto the stock lug nuts that came with my truck. I really want to make sure the wheel cap fits over the exposed lug nuts for our VT winters. Is my only option to buy a set of the stock lugs from Ford. That seems like a steep price for 20 lug nuts. I did find these on amazon, and the price is better. Wonder if these will work. Are there others where the stock steel wheel cover will work?

What have others done that swap out the 18" alloy wheels for 17" steelies for winter?

If you look at the Dorman specs for those lugnuts on Amazon, they are an OEM replacement for Maverick steel wheels. Considering how easy it is to return purchases to Amazon, I'd go for it.

FYI the XL open lug nuts are 13/16 or 21mm also works. Wasn't sure if that's the same socket size as the XLT/Lariat.

Curious why you want to swap the wheels out for the winter,for snow tires possibly?

exactly this. I live in VT and we get some fun winters. By having a second set of wheels/tires, it's easier and potentially cheaper for me to swap them out and rotate as needed.

Gotcha,I will be experiencing my first Michigan winter with my AWD mav on factory tires.hope it does ok!

AWD and solid tires - you should be OK. My wife has a Subaru and has never had snows. I've always had FWD vehicles and a separate set of snows. Good luck

Depending on the model, the factory tires are not what I’d call solid tires lol.

Just a heads up going from Lariat 18" to 17" wheel and tires the rolling mass if different will mess up computer setting .... in the Corvette world big headache alot of setting have to be changed.

I'm sure the mpg will be a little different, and possibly the MPH, but I'm ok with that. I think the bigger hassle will be resetting the tpms system and making sure the wheels are stored far enough away to not reset things.

What else do you think could be impacted?

Just going by Corvettes it would need to be re-tuned for shift points and tac would need to be recalibrated. By a experienced tuner RED line rev-limiter also for the go fast crowd..... With a Hybrid advanced computer system I would do some research

When I switched out my stock steelies(17") to the Bronze (18") wheels on my XL, the truck did not have to be reset. The Maverick recognized the new tpm's. It also recognized the stock tmp's on the steelies when I put them back on to trade it in. Same with my CO Hybrid, no resetting of tpm's. That should be the least of your worries. The Maverick is no where near as technical as the Corvette, so noting to worry about there either.

Don't buy the factory lugs, contact Discount Tire, tell them you want solid lugs, not capped "pretty" lugs as they are hidden with a cover and they will hook you up with what you need. Or go on-line spend hours or daze looking.
