The main concern of this thread was products being made in the US, not where the millionaires have their tax haven located.

I am much more concerned with how many working Americans can find jobs, not the c suites who horde the wealth.

Most stuff in my house is made in the USA, because I go out of my way to buy US made products, not whatever is cheapest at Wal Mart.

I understand both of your posts. Don't hate the messenger, just pointing out the reason or why.

Why are you worried about jobs? The jobs that are available in many states have a low minimum wage and many are working two to three jobs. Some are slave labor wages, in a restaurant those who can receive tips is slave labor of $3.33 an hour. Instead of tips being a bonus it's used to make up what the employer won't pay them.

Let's look at the automotive segment. One they removed many of their parts plants overseas. Next the ones they had took on a different name with less hourly wage and less benefits. Even the final assembly plant workers took pay and benefit cuts. One they don't have pensions anyone hired after 2007 at Ford, they also don't get health insurance after retirement the last I heard. Both are significant benefits.

I have heard often it's hard to get a job even with a college degree. Not sure if there is truth behind that or not. Only jobs that I have heard that have labor shortages is trades. They still make good money as well, next time you need a plumber, electrician, HVAC technician you will find out. All other jobs are limited in pay or both pay and benefits.

The health industry you can get a job but again no pension or health insurance when you retire. Even now years after COVID those in that field are over worked. Not only hours pulling extra shifts but a larger workload caring for more patients.

We had Henry Ford Hospital I think in flint or bay city that was out for months on strike if not over a year. They were paid less then nurses in other locations and over worked outside of their contract many times required to pull an extra shift. Required is the key word. Once you solve all of these issues then you can start being concerned over American jobs or American made.

I do commend you for buying American made or trying to. Most people can't afford that luxury. Again I'm referring to those working 2 to 3 jobs just trying to make ends meet. Or those working under subpar wages with little to no benefits.

I wished it was different but unfortunately that's the truth along with the information I posted earlier.

As some living near the planned site of a proposed Aluminum (Aluminium) smelter -in the Heartland - where people are always saying "nothing is American made anymore" are also being NIMBYs about the plant. Everyone wants Made in the USA, but no one wants it made where they live.

A majority of folks won't pay double the price. They just won't buy it or more.

hmm..not quite sure of your example - Roku is actually an Ameican company and yes I would definitely pay (and have paid) a premium on a Roku over a lousy Insignia.

It would be nice if Roku also built their TVs in America by Americans.
I wonder why Roku is so secretive about who builds their TVs??
Roku TVs are manufactured overseas by companies like TCL, LG, Westinghouse, Panasonic, Philips, Haier, Hitachi, Toshiba, and Hisense, and use the Roku user interface as the "brain" of the TV. Roku TVs are updated just like the streaming devices.

I think I would rather have a foreign company building factories in the US.,at least that tends to boost the local economies. Rather than an American company building factories overseas and just the profits coming back to the CEOs. Giving them funding to build more overseas factories.

Might be American made, but capacitors, resistors, IC, etc. are most likely than not MIC.. even Japanese components are MIC, but they have more control over the tolerances.

It's also been said by many a business leader that even if they wanted to manufacture inside the US, there's a plethora of reasons why it would be an uphill battle to do so. Permitting, a lack of engineering talent, labor costs, supply chain difficulties, etc. all contribute to the state of where we are. It's not one simple problem like many would want to point to but a huge mix of conditions that create major hurdles. IF, and that's a big IF, there were financial incentives to drive it, business would find ways to overcome those hurdles because that's what the free market does. But the costs are so high and the time horizons so long that the reward isn't great enough for anyone to take that on.

And this part will no doubt make some mad, but many Chinese made goods have surpassed much of the rest of the world in terms of quality. There's a spectrum but China knows very well how to make very high quality goods if the market supports it.

I haven’t seen fleets of Canadian container ships clogging up our ports remove the lumber products and the imports from our friends from the north dribble in at best they need to resume the KeyStone Pipeline Project

Our USA economy was transitioned from manufacturing to a service based economy a long time ago. Wasn't an accident.
Trades and Safety positions are going to be the best chance for a lot of people.

tariffs are paid by the importer, then those taxes are added to the price for the consumer. The foreign country that manufactures the product doesn't care about tariffs unless they are so high at reduces their sales to the importers. But at the end of the day all tariffs are paid by the consumer.
