Trying to keep this non-political. Tariffs seem to be more of a burden on the poor and middle class than they are the rich, especially if you want to use them to replace income tax. Think about income vs spending. If you have to spend 80 to 100% of what you make on living expenses, you are likely to encounter tariff price increases on the majority of your purchases, whereas with income taxes you at least have deductions to offset your tax burden. If you are really friggin rich, where you only have to spend a small amount of your yearly income on living expenses, you will have less exposure to tariff increases percentage wise. If taxes are cut and offset with tariffs, the rich will get richer and the poor will get poorer.

I think most families have little wiggle room already as discretionary spending is already rock bottom. Corporations will need to lower their prices and expected profits.
