All time/Symmetrical AWD

Intelligent AWD is cool I love the system but for a more performance focused build I’m going for is is possible is forscan to just make the AWD system always on to 50/50 like Subaru does with most of their vehicles. TIA for any answers on this. And for the future of the maverick as a platform.

Doesn't Slippery mode do this? Or provide a quicker response at least? I know it changes the shift points etc etc, but not sure about how it interacts with the part time AWD system. Just curious what kind of performance you expect to gain and where? On normal driving? You could end up causing binds in the PTU/RDU where the AWD system does not need to be active and you are forcing it. It's not a Subaru so it's not really meant to be used all the time. But I'm curious if anyone with more experience will weigh in and confirm/deny my suspicion as well. No doubt in a straight line it's not as bad but once you factor in daily driving conditions I suspect it's not that great of an idea for the drivetrain unless it's necessary like in sand/mud mode (which states not to use on dry/hard surfaces):

Is it really necessary? The computer is monitoring all the wheels anyway. As soon as you need power it adds some, there is even a dash screen that shows how it's working and how much power each wheel is getting. What would forcing all the time AWD accomplish?

Focus RS has AWD and it’s what I’m shooting my maverick to have performance close to that. Ik ik different power train. And what would I get out of it. 4 wheel burnouts and better traction in gravel if I rally it. Just thinking for the future is all.

No, the Ford PTU (Part that sends power to the rear wheels) is not designed to handle full time engagement, it's barely robust enough to handle part time engagement.

Sadly no if I’m not mistaken the RS has all time AWD while the mave has the intelligent AWD to switch to fwd for economy

I don’t think the focus rs has full time awd. All running awd full time would do is increase wear and fuel consumption.

Let’s be realistic here.

Also there’s little to no evidence Subaru’s system is any better.

No reason for it to be full-time. If you want the quickest engagement possible, throw it in Sport mode.

Take it out on a track and measure your tire temps on the outside, inside, and middle. You will see if you are having traction loss. I doubt you are in slippery mode. Also the Tremor has a AWD lock button.

yes but it's SYMMETRICAL even the Sube guys argue about what that exactly means.

Every video I watched about the BS Badlands vs the AWD whatever else, the Ford system was better off road. Subaru’s mostly held back by low power and CVT transmission.

I think the OP is looking for a tire smoking WRX STI type truck. Might be doable with a Tremor drive line in sand mode but it still wouldn't have a manual gear box to break the tires loose. You can get a Tremor tail happy in the loose stuff with the PTU locked, traction control off. But sadly the traction control is never really all the way off. Maybe with forscan.

No you cannot lock your Maverick in AWD. It has a twin clutch pack to engage the rear wheels that is not meant to be engaged permanently.

The Tremor can lock the center clutch pack but the system will disengage and be unavailable if you run it too hot or too long (Bronco Sport Badlands has had these issues).

For the record only the most performance oriented Subaru AWD systems are truly a perfect 50/50 split - they usually are 55/45 up to like 58/42 front to rear. Without Subaru's X-Drive system their system has proven to be less effective than newer AWD systems.

Locking the center clutch does lock you into awd off road but I wouldn't on dry pavement, it's not a RS. The overheating "issue" story originated from a lady journalist on an early press day outing. the BS Badlands reduced power for a few minutes and quickly returned to action when it cooled with no damage. The lady was hooning in sand for 20 minutes "driving it like an a**hole" in her own words. Never heard a peep about a problem running the PTU engaged too long any where from anybody until now.

Don't know if you've ever driven in sand but it's hard work.
Took my Raptor and 4 ATVs to Silver Lakes dunes in 2015 and the longest I could play hard was 15 minutes before the truck got hot enough to cook a pot roast.

You just talked about the journalist who mentioned it at the BS press day so.....

There is also a video of someone hooning the BS in the snow off road and they get the same warning. It goes away after a few minutes and they continue on, I'd have to search for the video on YT. But to say the one journalist who had the issue is the ONLY one is a bit presumptuous.

Yes I have spent many of days wheeling my shitty vehicles in the sand and know how tough it can be on vehicles.

I just took my FX4 out to the desert on some pretty aggressive ruts and soft sand. I never left normal mode, I could watch the system feel slipping and immediately send power. I had no problem keeping up with my buddy who has a Tacoma. I'm sure if it got more treacherous changing the drive mode would have helped more also.

But in terms of performance what else would you be trying to get? The system responds quickly and if you floor it it usually distributes power split between the front and the rear.
