I don't think the average car owner has the remotest idea just how hard it is to get good technicians these days. Trades are losing people every year and it is hard to get people into blue collar work. The cars are getting more technical, and in fairness this is a brand new model. There are many repairs that are going to be a first for technicians. So, while the OP has been inconvenience and that sucks, think about how much money the technician will lose working on his truck before calling him dumb from the comfort of your keyboard.
Ford failed to properly test the airbags from their suppliers and 65,000 vehicles were built with faulty airbags. Now they get to pay for that mistake in new parts and labor. The fact that they made it tough to service these airbags and don't have proper training required is a Ford/dealer problem. No sympathy from me.

One thing this country seems to be suffering from is a huge FU attitude. If this was your kid at work who just lost a days pay change your attitude? We are all humans and brothers man. This isn't a screw the man conversation. You are talking about another person who is a lot like you.

Lost a day of pay? How? If they're working, they're legally required to get paid.

My truck is currently at the dealer because they pulled my headliner with oily hands, broke plastic pieces, didn't screw on my seatbelts right to the pillar, and I have rattling visors. On a new $35,000 vehicle.

That's after 18 dealer visits in for the rattling windshield, which is still not fixed.

Who is going to pay me for the Ubers and rental cars? Who is going to pay me for my lost time? Ford? The dealer?

Respect goes both ways.

I don't know where this technician is located, but labor laws differ wildly by state, and it is absolutely not true that if he works he gets paid in all states. Your situation sounds way worse. And I am sorry for all the hassle. But, my point is that I doubt the tech if confronted by the service manager would say "i have no sympathy" for the owner. Just because you've had issues does not mean they do not respect you. Again, people outside the industry have all kinds of opinions on how the industry should run. And it isnt that simple. We have a hard time getting technicians at all. Much less premium quality techs. And we pay very well and a huge signing bonus. I cannot imagine how hard it is at lower end stores like Ford, and especially in podunk areas where you couldn't possibly recruit someone from another nice area.

It does mean they don't respect me. They knowingly ruined my property and delivered my truck back to me in a way that diminished its value.

It's one thing to mess up, own up to it, and fix it. No harm, no foul. Stuff happens. I understand.

It's a whole other thing to mess up knowingly, not say anything to the customer, and expect that everything will be ok. That's not right.

Either way, true, I get things are more complicated. They always are to folks who don't see the entire process, like me in this case.

I am not blaming the tech. I am in the automotive services business and fully aware of the challenges of sourcing techs. Hiring, "training" and mentoring new techs should be on a top priority. Going by this comment "On top of that, they told me this morning airbag recall was 2hrs and ended up taking the guy 7 hrs because he's "never done it before". Now I learn he fu#$%^D up the backup sensors on top of that."

Someone experienced should've stepped in and assist this tech.

How about you pickup a wrench and get to work? Arbitrarily calling someone incompetent based on one interaction is uncalled for. This person is likely not an ace tech if this recall does in fact pay 2 hours and he took 7 to do it. But that does not mean he is incompetent. Another thing that happens to us in the industry, especially on new cars is that factory published service information such as repair procedures can be wrong. Sometimes very wrong. So again, congratulations for apparently being an infallible genius, but you come across as a real jackass

Ummm yea he's incompetent. He took 7hrs on a 2hr book. He then put the headliner back without checking that the electrical connections had been seated and now needs another day to fix it all. And to top it off he told reception when I called that he was almost finished and come pick up in an hr and it ended up being another 6hrs after I arrived

If that's not incompetence, don't know what is. lol
