Amazing how that color changes based on the ambient light!

Welcome back, HRG

ps, just noticed that you're from Paragould AR. Used to visit a customer down there, and always enjoyed a catfish & hushpuppies lunch at a local diner.
Oh you said it! Catfish n hushpuppies. Yummy.

Why would a state charge more for a hybrid? What state are you in? Utah doesn't do that. Our annual registration on our vehicles is very reasonable. Our 2023 Lariat w/Lux hybrid FWD was $297 back in November. Our 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD 4x4 long bed truck was $130.50 last summer and our classic 1996 Ford Bronco XLT was $90.50 last fall.
Loss of gas tax revenue. Lots of states do this.

Nearly two years ago I traded my 23 cyber orange, heavily modified Maverick for a 24 F150. Last month I sold my F150 and bought a nice 2012 Fusion that I was planning to drive for a while as it was paid for. I couldn’t live without all the tech we’ve all become used to. So yesterday, I purchased a 25 eruption green 2.0 awd XLT with black appearance package. This is the color I special ordered, but wound up with the F150. I work for a dealer so we found this one close by and did a dealer trade. The deal was too good to pass up and with ford special rates right now, it was cheap. So I’m back. Not sure what the future holds as far as mods. I am going to install my original leather wrapped wheel from my hybrid in this truck for sure though. The 2.0 feels very spry compared to my hybrid. My state charges too many extra fees for hybrid so I learned that lesson last time. Anyways, here it is. Glad to be back! Also, keeping that Fusion as a spare…it’s too good to let go.

Great color. But I'm partial to any color other than black and white

I completely understand that....in fact, the lowest temp selection "LO" is also the initials of her name, So I always say, "Well, there is cold and then there is LO cold......" dang hot flashes...it's hell getting older for the fairer sex....
Ever get one of these? :)

Glad ours doesn't do that. They do charge more, as they should, for completely electric vehicles (i.e. Tesla and E-Mustangs, etc.) since they use the roads and wear down the asphalt but don't pay any state gasoline taxes. In the metropolitan area in northern Utah, they used to let a hybrid vehicle automatically drive in the HOL lane. That was back when hybrids were somewhat of a novelty. Now hybrids are just considered a much more fuel efficient gasoline vehicle, thus they are not "taxed" extra at registration time each year.

When people think of a green car, it doesn’t sound good. When they see eruption green, it can change minds.
Exactly! I never knew what people liked in a green car, but EG changed that for me.

I pay a surcharge on my Ecoboost because it has an EPA combined rating above 25 mpg. Here's what it cost this year to renew my registration.
Registration pickup; 35.75
County fee; 20
Personal property tax; 635
Highway use fee, EB: 11.67
Total: 710.75

Good gravy! If your screen name is reflective of your state it must be Virginia. Our state does not charge any personal property tax at all on vehicles and our counties cannot charge any fee. What is your state doing with all that money? Despite not bilking it's residents like your state, our state is doing projects like upgrading all of our freeways, such as adding a third lane along all of the I-15 freeway throughout the rural areas of the state.

Now tell me your sales tax and property tax rates. Also our gas tax is low compared to surrounding states. ALL state charge tax in one way or another. The personal property tax goes away after the vehicle is 20 years old. I like the system here compared to Ohio where I lived formerly. With taxing just home owners just home owners are funding government. Taxing vehicles ALL residents are funding government.

SALES TAX:

In rural Utah, the average combined sales tax is roughly 6.10% to 6.35%. This is slightly lower than the statewide average of 7.42%, as many rural areas skip the higher local mass transit or resort taxes found in major cities.

A breakdown of the local and state factors:
  • Base State Rate: 4.85% applies everywhere in Utah.
  • Mandatory Local Rate: 1.25% is added statewide.
  • Rural Add-ons: Depending on the county, an extra 0% to 1.0% may be added for rural hospitals, local options, or county-specific additions.

FUEL TAX (at the pump):

Utah's state gas tax rate is $0.379 per gallon for both gasoline and diesel.

PROPERTY TAX:

The average effective property tax rate in Utah is roughly 0.53% to 0.58%, which is among the lowest in the nation. The typical Utah homeowner pays an estimated $1,900 to $2,500 annually, depending on the home's location and assessed value.

Understanding a few key details will help clarify what to expect:

How Property Tax is Calculated
  • Primary Residence Exemption: If you live in your Utah home as your primary residence, you automatically qualify for a 45% residential exemption. This means you only pay property tax on 55% of your home's fair market value.
Our home had an estimated market value of $546,000 for 4 bds · 2 ba · 2,865 sq ft on 1/4 acre. No HOA. Our property tax paid by us last year was $1,808.07

STATE INCOME TAX:

Also, Utah has a flat individual income tax rate of 4.45%. This rate applies to all income earned in or derived from the state, regardless of your filing status or total income level. There are no local city or county income taxes in Utah.

I always wanted a blue vehicle, but never owned one. When I was in the process of buying my velocity blue mav, I almost bought an eruption green one instead. It's a damn good looking color!

Green is the best color and it is a shame it was a 1 year option. They should have phased out one of the grayscale colors and kept the green.
State gas taxes fund a lot of stuff. Hybrids don't use as much gas, so hybrid drivers don't contribute as much to the state. States add fees for hybrids to compensate for the difference. They do the same for EVs. Hybrids and EVs cause as much wear and tear on the roads as ICE vehicles do. Why shouldn't they contribute?
Not to get too far off topic here, but since significant money is spent to subsidize the fossil fuel industry, we could reduce that subsidy and use that money to maintain roadways instead.

Virginia state taxes are indeed nuts. What would drive me crazy is that personal property tax. Oh joy, I get the privilege to pay $600 every year because I own something!

My state is 1% higher sales tax then Virginia, but as we have no personal property tax, we dont have to pay a "highway use tax" (isnt that what the gas tax was for.....to maintain the roads?) and we dont have to pay a county fee on top of the registration, and our registration is $2 higher then yours, I pay SIGNIFICANTLY less then you do in taxes.

7 years of registration for both my GLI and my F-250 was $720. No highway tax, no county tax, no ownership tax. Our gas tax is $0.07 higher per gallon, but you would have to buy 9072 gallons of fuel just to hit your personal property tax in difference in cost, meaning you would have to, quite literally, drive 250k miles A YEAR, getting just 22 MPG, to pay near an equivalent amount.

Virginia is a very expensive place to live. Also, no, in Ohio it is not just homeowners, all property owners pay tax to fund the government. Any rented house, or condo, or apartment complex, is still paying taxes. The renters are paying it through rent.

Isn't it nice I have the FREEDOM to live where I wish. Hopefully you live where you CHOOSE not because it is where you were born. Actually Virginia is about in the middle nationally for total cost of living.
EDIT: Maybe myself and EVERY person in the USA should move to your state and save some bucks.
