If the XLT model luxury package included the adjustable headrests included with the Lariat, I would have added it. I preferred the XLT cloth upholstery, so the Lariat was not an option. Do the adjustable headrests in the Lariat come farther forward than the non-adjustable ones?

I like to get support behind the back of the head, not the neck and can achieve it with the driver's seat pretty upright but not with the seat partly reclined. Most cushions for car headrests provide neck support which is not what I'm looking for. Has anyone found a headrest solution for more driver comfort? Or, perhaps everyone else has better posture and the XLT headrests are just perfect as they are.

In my last truck, I just added a stretchable headrest cover and added 1" foam rubber under it.

Would these do what you're looking for?

The Lariat headrests have 4 levels of adjustments forward and back. I adjust mine when I'm on a longer trip occasionally to prevent a stiff neck (I'm getting older) or when I adjust the reclining seat, lumbar support, etc.

Perhaps you could get the headrests form a totaled Lariat, although I have no idea how much a recycler would charge for them.

An interesting read and a cool idea, but not much help for a driver's seat.

Could get some Lariat headrests and have an upholsterer swap covers, but not worth the trouble and expense. You have to be an auto enthusiast to make the investment. That's more for something to show off, not to make an old man comfortable. I'm afraid my solution will be something not cool.

I have an XLT and did not know about the head restraints. I'm having terrible next problems. I'm trying to find how to replace them with the ones that can be straight instead of forward.

I don't mean to sound so stupid, but once I get the head restraints up I can't seem to get them off. Is there a trick I missed? Turning them around seems to be the perfect solution.
Thanks!

Lean the seat back all the way back.
That should give you enough room to pull the headrest all the way out.

Gets worse! I wasn't using the right lever for the seat back and couldn't get the one on the driver's side out. It leaves a little more room than should be between my head and the restraint, but will buy me time to see if I can get the adjustable ones, or just get the little neck pillows.
Thanks!

Buy the headrests and swap the covers from the XLT. Why would they not fit ?
