The "2002" you mentioned . . . year or model?
I had a '72 2002 BMW sedan and it was one of the best cars I've ever owned. Would love to get my hands on a restored one.
I was never a German car fan; I always had British or Japanese sports cars. But, if I remember correctly, the 2002 LITERALLY PUT BMW ON THE MAP IN AMERICA. Our neighbor's kid had one, and he swore by it. The guy who gets my Maverick is getting a nice truck. 6400 miles, original wheels, hub caps and lug nuts in the bed, slide-in carrier for the bed, car cover and hail cover, plus all the little things that you guys talked me in to buying. Happy roads, friends.

Well, all good things must come to an end. As I am no longer able to heft my kayak, I had to get rid of it, and no longer have a need for a truck. Carvana offered me $24,600 for my 2022 XL (I paid $19,995 + $1,400 options), only 6400 miles. It has been my first non-convertible vehicle, and I miss them. So, I bought a 2012 BMW 328i convertible money pit. Good luck folks; you have a great forum here. Before I go, I think of that great Mort Sahl parting, "Before I go, is there any group I haven't offended?"

Just flush money down the toilet. It is easier.
Based on personal experience, I would add "used Porsches" to that statement
There is nothing more expensive than a cheap used luxury.

You are clearly a sadist.

BMW money pit. Yep, that about sums up those cars.

So long.

When it comes to notoriously unreliable vehicles Land Rover would like a word.

We got rid of our Kayaks. Got solo canoes. Faster and lighter and easier to lift. Just more $$$.

... I had no idea maverick prices were still that high.
Yes, they are still high - at least for Hybrids. I can still get more than I paid for my '23 XL Hybrid.

I had one too, it was great little car, best handling car I ever had, I compare it to a slot car, Loved it sorry I sold it. Than got a 320 couldn't compete with 2002.

I have owned quite a few German cars and currently drive a 2013 X1 35i with 144k miles. Runs great every day and I have only had 2 issues in the last 4 years. One is the valve cover and the other is the evap hose.

Both pretty straight forward and easy fixes. Otherwise zero issues.

I have had 5 Porsche's (911's and 914's). All of them have been excellent as far as reliable goes. Nothing is perfect. Oil changes are pricey due to the oil's specs required. The 911 air cooled takes 12 quarts.

My guess is many of you never owned one and just read what others say on Reddit or forums.

My wife's 2015 Ford Flex has required far more repairs than my BMW and it has 80k miles.

Thanks, Mike. I always take the "haters" with a grain of salt. And there are a lot of them out there. I pick her up this morning. I have read the owners manual once, and will read it again, as there are so many electric things (passenger mirror moves down for parallel parking, etc.) to remember. I am just glad that it doesn't have the extra idrive, which would be more than my 80-year-old brain could absorb. Good luck to you and wife. Thanks again.

You bet!

Now the 2012 328i is the first year of the F30 chassis and it has the new N20 4 cylinder engine. Not a bad engine but keep up on the oil changes. LubroMoly/LiquiMoly is my oil of choice for turbo charged BMW engines. They are the same just different names for different markets.

Check out this - https://bmwtuning.co/bmw-n20-faq/

It will tell you a lot about the engine and maintenance.
