I would like to add Key Fob Remote Start as an accessory because key fob remote start is only available from the factory on the Lux packages. I know FordPass has remote start, but by the time you enter user name and password in the app I could have already walked to the truck. And I am not sure if the FordPass app would work unless you buy ATT cell service for the modem in the truck. Key Fob remote start is simple and quick. I see that now the Build and Price page for the Maverick now includes dealer accessories. For Remote Start this page sells the Perimeter Plus Security System at $208.00. But the Ford Specs says Perimeter Security is standard on XLT and Lariat. Why are they reselling something as an accessory something that already is factory installed? And would not the correct accessory for remote start be the Remote Start Key Fob at $95 each? My understand is that if you buy the key fob, then all the dealer has to do is reprogram the vehicle computer to work with the new remote key fob? Or is there more to it? I can’t find any instructions on Ford web sites on how to install the remote start accessory. Any insights?

I've been looking at the same. The add on for the Perimeter Security Plus is a module (part number has been around for a while) that is pretty much plug and play which normally adds remote start and perimeter plus shock sensors.

With the lux package you get remote start and perimeter alarm (not plus) so it sounds like all it would add is the shock sensors to you Lux remote start.

Interestingly enough, the remote start is added by that module and there is a jumper on the module to disable the extra security features. I'm thinking the module might be in the Lux Package but jumpered for the remote start only...meaning all your have to do is remove the jumper and do the On-Off-On key sequence stuff to activate it.

I'll edit this later with the part number and installation manual I found which tells you how to do it. Maybe somebody that takes delivery of a Lux could look under the dash for this module and if so, see if it is only jumpered.

Okay, here's the part number of the Perimeter Security Plus they have on the Ford Accessories Website:
VEHICLE SECURITY SYSTEM - FORD PERIMETER PLUS
Part No KN1Z-19A361-A
Ford Maverick Adding Key Fob Remote Start 1633281958788

Attached is the installation instructions (a little old, but still same - maybe somebody can get a newer copy). See page 10 of 24 for the information about the jumper and how removing it enables your security system.

Also here is a 2021 video of the same module being installed in 2017 Super Duty, and he even mentioned it was the new "upgraded" module. Can't see Ford developing a whole new module for the Maverick, so I'm guessing they are identical. Even lists the same part number in the title of the install video:
Updated Ford Remote Start W/ Security System Install For Many Makes and Models KN1Z-19A361-A

So you are saying that even though my vehicle will come with Perimeter Security, I still have to pay $208 for the Perimeter Security PLUS accessory to get the remote start module, pay to have that accessory installed, AND buy two key fobs @$95. I am now looking at north of $500 to add remote start? At some point, this becomes a totally unreasonable cost/ benefit ratio and it makes more sense to apply that $500+ to buy the Lux package. What is just what Ford Marketing wanted in the first place

Hey just to correct some things here, you never need to purchase ATT cell service for Fordpass, its included for free (well they sell your data bigly including your driving habits read the T&C). Also you only need to enter user name and password once right after you install the app. Afterwards you can choose to have a pin or not. But on my current vehicle there’s a delay of at least 30 seconds or so. I don’t know how fast FordPass is but I can see how manually turning it on could be faster.

This is becoming increasingly confusing. I have read through these instructions. They refer to a remote access upgrade. This upgrade is the FordPass remote start system. This upgrade must be plugged into the Vehicle Start System to work. This is the same VSS module that provides key fob remote start and shock sensors. Therefore, if the Maverick has FordPass remote start, then it must also have the VSS shock sensor + key fob remote start the FordPass remote start plugs into. Therefore there is no need to buy the accessory Security Plus module, and I am back to my original conclusion that I only have to buy two key fobs and program them to work with the VSS already installed in the vehicle. Where is this logic wrong?

And if my conclusion in my reply above is true, then you can enable perimeter security in the XL by removing the jumper wire which was installed in the VSS to defeat the perimeter security in the XL.

I seem to be right about not having to install the Perimeter Plus security module that the Ford Build and Price page says is required to install key fob remote start. You only need to buy the key fobs.
I found the 2021 installation instructions at motorcraftservice.com. The relevant instructions say:
“For vehicles equipped with a 4G mode, FordPass Connect or factory remote start proceed to the "Programming Key Fobs" section of this manual.” So bypass installing the module.
However, the function of the jumper wire seems to have changed. The wire must now be connected to enable remote start. PrIor model year instructions said it has to be connected to disable the shock sensor.
But not completely confident about this.

Now the main question here would be for someone who lives in the hot areas and has a hybrid, what the advantage of remote start would be?

To pre-cool the truck. Remember, the ac is electric off the high voltage battery.

Remote start could also be disabled by the computer, forscan could potentially help if that's the case...

Thanks for all the posts here. Good and useful info that made me think a little more in detail and pay attention to the installation manual.

I have an XL and have purchased the VSS kit and remote start fob. Today, I spent trying to find the Ford Gateway Module (GWM) as noted in the instructions, only to find out the connector on the back of the OBDII module is the place the VSS Wiring Harness plugs (inline). Too late today to install and program.

There is a note that says since I have Ford Pass I do not have to use ForScan or take the truck to the dealer and program it. The note says: For vehicles equipped with a 4G mode, Ford Pass or factory remote start proceed to the "Programming Key Fobs" section of this manual.

So, if it is warm enough tomorrow afternoon, hopefully I'll finish the VSS and Remote Start system install.

Security System Install Update.

Yesterday I installed the Insurance Dongle on the OBDII port and discovered that the connector at the back of the OBDII port does not match the Vehicle Security System (VSS) Kit provided by Ford.

In reviewing the instructions for the VSS there were five types of installation. 1) Specific installation for the Explorer and Aviator, the harness connectors are supposed to plug into the Gateway Module (GWM) which is located near the fuse box. 2) Installation in the Edge and nautilus the VSS harness plugs into the Enhanced Central Gateway (ECG). 3) For F-150 the VSS plugs into the GWM which is located under the Front Display Interface Module behind the Sync Module (APIM?). 4) For the Bronco, the VSS plugs into the ECG located behind the Glove Box. And 5), for all other vehicles the VSS is supposed to plug into the port behind the OBDII port after unplugging the cable that fits there. I know that is a lot of information, but I want to make sure I've gotten the situation correct and writing it down helps me to understand better.

Originally Ford had provided part # ML3Z19A361A on the Maverick Build site to order for the VSS. Now, when I go to the accessories.ford.com and put in my VIN and now Ford gives me a different module number, which is KN1Z19A361A. So, I'm kind'a operating blind right now and need to confirm which part # is correct and verify where the VSS plugs into the Maverick.

Here I thought it was going to be a simple install.

I seem to be right about not having to install the Perimeter Plus security module that the Ford Build and Price page says is required to install key fob remote start. You only need to buy the key fobs.
I found the 2021 installation instructions at motorcraftservice.com. The relevant instructions say:

However, the function of the jumper wire seems to have changed. The wire must now be connected to enable remote start. PrIor model year instructions said it has to be connected to disable the shock sensor.
But not completely confident about this.
After disappointment of either having the wrong VSS harness or not finding the correct installation port, I decided to try the Remote Start Fob programming process shown on page 19 for key start vehicles. The process was just a few simple steps:

1. Start with Ignition key OFF, doors unlocked and VSS system disabled. (Since I couldn't install right now, the disabled part is redundant).
2. Open driver door (remaining open throughout).
3. Place shifter in the PARK position (remaining in PARK).
4. Depress and hold the brake pedal.
5. Cycle ignition key ON then OFF 5 times, then back to the ON position a 6th time.
* The horn will sound 3 times to indicate transmitter learn mode access.
6. Press and hold the remote start button for 3 seconds on each fob you wish to program (horn will sound indicating successful programming).
7. Cycle ignition key to the OFF position to exit transmitter lean mode.

Well, step 5 results of the horn sounding 3 times did not happen, and step 6 results of horn sounding indicating successful programming did not happen either. Obviously now, the remote start did not work with the fob.

However, the instructions clearly say the VSS Module has to learn to vehicle. The instructions also say to Install the jumper to the VSS module if the Basic Remote Start feature is to be enabled.

So, I will find out if I have the wrong VSS Kit or the wrong location for install. We'll see.
