Acoustic Windshield

We've owned vehicles with acoustic glass and without acoustic glass, and I've never noticed any difference. Then again, I've never driven the same car with/without back to back.

I'm not concerned with this at all. There is no safety benefit to acoustic windshield glass. Having owned everything from Mercedes and Porsche to Kia and Nissan, I haven't ever owned a car that I thought was objectionably loud.

Difference in cabin noise was very obvious for me without Acoustic and with but I did not perform any scientific testing- Here is a list of Ford part#s/models with SoundScreen-

Just the news I wanted to hear! The thought of it being quieter is the main reason I upped to the Lariat. Glad it will pay off.

Windshield replacement is free in Florida... just need to make sure they replace it with the Lariat windshield and not an XL/XLT one if it should it ever happen to crack.. Luckily after 10 years living here, I've only ever had a windshield crack on me once after the car was sitting out all day baking in a theme park parking lot..

Everyone pays higher rates for this "FREE" service. Isn't there some old adage about nothing being free?

While I don’t share your (lack of) concern about noise as I have had a couple objectionably loud cars within the not so distant past….I too don’t think the windshield makes all that much if any real world perceptible difference. I had a 15 F150 XL at work for awhile which doesn’t have soundscreen, and own a 16 Lariat myself that does have it, and never noticed any difference between the 2.

Some may be more sensitive than others in regards to sound/noise, But I did notice that the Lariat I drove right after the XLT was noticeably quieter, was it the windshield, Leather like seats, some magic soundproofing done @ the firewall that is not present in the XLT ? Would be nice to see if anyone else has driven both an XLT&Lariat Ecoboost and could chime in on this -

Also possible the Lariat Lux's Sync 3 system might have active sound cancelling although I don't recall if the Maverick gets that or not. My Fusion's Sync 2/MyFordTouch has it but it's disconnected because a non-stock subwoofer makes it go crazy.

XLT had base tires + tow package. The motor seemed a bit noisy / course. Lariats motor was quiter as well.

I’d say there is a little less road noise on my lariat vs work’s XL, but no real difference in wind noise. Lariat prob has a bit more insulation, and as for the wind noise, maybe the XL was just a bit more tight being a regular cab vs a lot more opening/seal area of my Lariat being a scab which negated any benefit of the soundscreen if they do in fact make any real difference. Who knows. While a relatively quiet vehicle…and I mean relative as far as type, price point, etc since not everything is a Lincoln or Cadillac…is a high concern to me, soundscreen windshield is not. I’d rather have it than not all things being equal, but not worth stepping up in trim on account of it though.

I saw a picture of a Lariat AWD that had Michelin Primacy 225/60/R18
Also saw a pic of an XLT that had Continental ProContacts

Kind of agree. XLT had more Subaru 4 cyclinder buzzy engine noise than the Lariat but at 75 seemed to be more similar in overall road /wind noise. Could dynomat under the front Carpet quiet this motor ?

I'm curious about this, too. I live in New Mexico, and don't remember a vehicle I didn't have to replace a windshield on at least once. I carry $500 deductible and always have to pay out if pocket. The acoustic windshield "could" go over the deductible.

But: A friend had to replace a windshield on his Tesla. It was covered by insurance, but the cost was eye watering. Well north of $1000 as I remember.

Your surprised by this ? Many of the new cars have sensors in the windshield for adaptive cruise control, temperature gage, etc. And any of these cost around $1000 or even more.
I had the windshield in my Prius replaced twice in the last year. $1100 each time. Luckily I have a $100 deductible with my insurance.

I hear you. My buddy has the same car, and has had 2 windshields in his also, but he has a 0$ deductible. I keep meaning vto switch my deductible to 0$ also

So how much is this windshield gonna cost me to add to an XLT build after the fact ? It makes a difference unless the Lariat has undisclosed sound deadening ?
