You’re going to give the lawyers an idea…Someone needs to make a clear acrylic cover for it. Sort of like the cover to fire missiles button or the AZ5 button.

Nice to know there are perfect people out there that have never done anything stupid! Good for you.No amount of engineering can prevent people from doing intensely stupid things.
IF I ever get a Mav, that is one item on my list to make.Someone needs to make a clear acrylic cover for it. Sort of like the cover to fire missiles button or the AZ5 button.
Of course it does. And I am not picking on you in any way, this is a generality. I've been on Focus ST forums, motorcycle racing and street forums, Corvette, RAM and F150 forums over many years. I've never experienced the level of nerrding out or wild lack of mechanical knowledge in any forum that compares to this one. That said, I am glad it is here for those, including myself to get the answers people seek. Ford has been using a version of this shifter, and also push buttons in the Lincolns for years. Of course there are many fail safes built in. It wouldn't pass safety testing if it did not.I haven't thought about that happening, but certainly there are many scenarios in which it's possible. I hope the EB has the same failsafe. I'm confident it does, because I know it automatically shifts into P if I open the door while still in D. Sometimes it also gives a double beep when I do that.
I did it by pushing the start/stop button. Didn't know it would automatically shift into park. Did it a thousand times with my other truck/car/bike. Coming up to park, push in the clutch and brake, turn off the ignition and come to a stop and let the clutch back out.You can only switch it into park at a very slow speed. Above that would be similar to the OP's experience. I have to say though, I am more than a little baffled at how many in here post about switching gears accidentally. Someone said they have done it stretching. Wut? Is he Andre the giant? Are you doing yoga in the truck? WTF
Well..I don't see how you could "bump" the dial. By bump do you mean reaching into the tray in front of the dial? That I could possibly see. I have put the truck into reverse accidently while park..but I guess anything can happen. My advice..sit in the drivers seat and meditate on the dial for a long time , at least once, then drive. ( almost put a smile here)I'm curious about how many of the folks who are so terrified of the round dial selector on the center console (which must be turned to change gears) are equally terrified when driving one of the many cars that have an in-line selector on the center console?
After all, you could just as easily "bump" that one into neutral or reverse as you can the round dial... In fact, it might be easier in some cases. (Like perhaps wiping up spilled coffee while driving 70 mph...)![]()
Yeah, I'd love to be like some of these MF that apparently I've never had anything bad happen in their life. I'm excited if I can go through one whole day without something crapping all over me. They can bless us with a video of themselves walking upon water.Nice to know there are perfect people out there that have never done anything stupid! Good for you.
We may have plenty of mechanical knowledge. I do nearly all the maintenance/repairs on the tractors, backhoes, vehicles at work myself. but perhaps we don't have much knowledge of the features of newer vehicles. This might be the first new vehicle we've owned. My last vehicle was a 2014. I had never seen a dial shifter before. So ya we're trying to learn here. Maybe that means nerrding out sometimes. I hope this forum is a place where we can feel free to post our concerns and questions without criticism. And I'm not picking on you in any way.Of course it does.
