My truck told me it was time to change the oil. I don't drive much. I've got ~3500 miles on it and it'll be a year old pretty soon. Anyway, it was actually earlier than I was expecting the truck to want new oil but OK by me as the break-in should be pretty much done. I ran through a couple of videos on the oil change. Nothing was too surprising.

-It did suck to have to take off that big fiber thing under the engine but I generally understand why it's there. It didn't exactly kill me. It added 15 minutes in removal and replacement.

-I replaced the drain plug with this Votex system I got from Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B092KPTZCD). I used the other kind in the past with the little open/close handle but it sticks out a long ways (risk of getting knocked off) and there was mention about some kind of extension, too much trouble for me.

-Then I got to the fun part. The filter that got installed at factory was put on with a dry seal and tightened to within a millimeter of its life. I started with my little rubber strap wrench. It laughed at me. I got out a fram puller I had and it managed to tear a hole in the side of the filter but not turn the threads. I took a trip to Walmart and got one of these little Hyper Tough Adjustable Filter Wrenches of the appropriate size. Game over, I took the filter off.

-For a replacement, I went with the FL400S. I was able to replace all six quarts of oil and it brought me right to the full mark peak, happy happy.

-The rest went fine. I filled it with six quarts of full synthetic, started it it for a bit, checked for leaks, and put everything back together. I did most of my cleanup before I got hungry and quit, plus it was time for my dogs to walk.
I agree on the oil filter never in my life have I had such trouble getting an oil filter off

I have a lift, so oil changes are easy. I also added a drain valve, just had to enlarge the opening near the drain a little for access. I used a 4" hole saw to cut an opening for filter access. I start removing the filter with a filter wrench then use a red solo cup to grab onto the filter. the cup catches any oil so no mess. Never have to remove the panel again.
Toby Keith would be proud.

my 2018 Taurus seemed to pop up an alert just under a year time no matter what the miles were. It could be 3000 miles or 6000 miles. About 11 1/2 months and it was telling me to change the oil. The Maverick may be the same

The last time I did the oil change myself I owned a new 1974 Chevy Van and I was 22 years old and the Auto parts store parts man gave me the wrong oil filter . So four quarts of oil on my parent driveway and that was my last time I did a oil change . If I met that auto part man now I would thank him ,I could work that same amount of time it take to do a change and earn sometimes double the money and somebody could do the oil change at the dealership. I how 72 yrs old. Car dealership have oil change on sale all the time.

A full service with Motorcraft Full Synthetic oil is $79 at my Ford dealer.
It will most likely happen two or three times a year. My fifth service is free.
So, that works out to $63 each time.
It takes less than an hour. I walk around the lot and look at window stickers. It drives the salespeople crazy. :)
Or I’ll get a cup of free coffee.
No mess,
Hands stay clean,
No oil to dispose of.
They rotate the tires and check all kinds of things and fluids.

I used to change my oil but not anymore. I consider it a convenience fee.
Worth every penny.
Just sayin.
Kings Ford - Cincinnati got me $124.99 for simple oil change. Not even tire rotation since it was only 4000 miles in and they said they'd do it next time. Has me thinking one of those Valvoline instant places next time, esp since it took 90 min to do it ....

Before my first oil change when I saw that cover with all the clips, I decided to get the rival skid plate and it’s been a great addition. Also might keep rodents out of your engine if you have an issue with that and it was about 300 bucks, but it went on easy and I’m glad I have the under body protection as well as eating much easier oil change for 10 years. I’m keeping this vehicle for the long run.

Reports from many indicate it does not just do time.
Miles and type of miles will cause it to be earlier.

I am sure it is based on TIME, MILES, and Engine revolutions. Whichever comes first. If you are sitting in traffic with the engine running, it will count that in too. You can probably drive just 1000 miles in a year and it will still alert you when you get into that 11th month to change the oil. I wasn't suggesting that it was just time but time is one of the things that get factored in.

No type of skid plate or belly pan will save you from the devil rodents ....
I would think they could put some kind of coating on those wires to make them less tasty to rodents. I have heard of rabbits chewing wires too.

I bet it would provide more protection for your engine too

I would think you could apply your Ford Pass points on an oil change and get some points for your oil change, but I am not sure every dealer participates in that program.

Idle time engine running is a logged value.

Yes, the manual referenced max 12 months is factored in as, well, max.

I haven't done an oil change on the maverick yet but on my other cars the time savings of doing it myself is worth it. Every time I go to the dealer I either need to get a ride or wait. Plus I need to drive there and back. Active time doing an oil change is probably 20 minutes. While the oil drains (not active time) I just do some other chores around the house.

I hope you added 5.5 quarts and not 6.

6 is usually too much. You can always add a little more later. But it's a royal PITA to take a little out.
