so I have a 25 AWD Hybrid, and this is my first time having a vehicle with drive modes.

one thing I've noticed is that they are very different in how they handle and how they prioritize throttle response (if I used that term correctly) vs battery power, vs the engine... but

while not doing any kind of scientific study, I seem to anecdotally get a better MPG rating on sport mode than eco mode.

for instance I just went from Michigan to DC in sport mode and got almost 32MPG on my just over 500 mile trip, but I drove back in normal mode and got just over 30 MPG.

yes I know there are many variables like how much I went up hill vs downhill going through the mountains...I'm just sayin.

so am I crazy, or is it that I just don't have enough data in my 1600 miles thus far?

You theoretically can get better MPGs in sport mode. It sharpens throttle response but I haven't noticed it doing much else.

If you switch to Eco or Tow/Haul you may notice you allow down faster when taking your foot off the gas. Those modes seem to both turn the regen braking up, at least in my experience.

that shouldn't happen so it was one or more of these factors:

headwind
elevation gain
more idling
higher speed

Too many factors and not nearly enough time to tell.
I’ve used the, ‘Ten’ tank method with good results.
Set the truck up, do ten tanks.
Then set the truck up another way and do ten more tanks.
Use averages over the ten tanks.
That should be fairly accurate.
Remember to disregard extreme weather days, lots of rain and or wind, what ever.

in my 22 FWD hybrid, I got the best MPG from "slippery" mode...........and I've been trying that on my 25 AWD, but I'm just 90 miles into my 2nd tank of fuel. The super cold weather the first week I bought the truck had my mpg around 31 for the first tank. I'm at 34.5 so far on this one and the trip to work this morning was over 40mpg.

Not understanding: you say "better in Sport than Eco" and then you quote a trip in Sport one way and Normal the other way? You never say what mpg u get in Eco.... What am missing here?

Choice of gas also makes a difference (I only use top tier). The manual and search feature on this site helped me tremendously. You'll learn to adjust to the terrain and seasons. Far too many variants to sum up here. Regardless, enjoy the ride.

you are correct that I said "better in sport than Eco, you are also correct that I talked about my trip in sport and Normal.

my post was really about my trip, and the sport/eco argument is very anecdotal.

What Octane Level (87 - 93 Octane) are people using in the 2025 Maverick Hybrid 2.5L?

You forgot temperature. Mileage can drop in colder weather - sometimes significantly.
Temp was roughly the same there and back, but on the trip I did go through the mountains, I don't know if I went downhill more one way than the other.

all other factors were negligible.

WAY too much to put on here. This is a great site for info. In the top right corner, click on the "search" symbol and type in "fuel". Tons of options from members that have far better knowledge than I. Choose what's best for your situation.
