Hearing all the good things about Granger I'm surprised they would "work something out" and sell a discounted Ford ESP on a vehicle registered in California when California apparently prohibits it...

.

.
well I am no lawyer but seems like it would be problematic to connect prohibition on ESP to vehicle registered in CA. I think they can only use address for practical purposes. vehicles cross state lines all the time and are bought and sold across state lines. how is that going to be tracked by Ford through the years? If I sell the vehicle to someone in AZ they should still be able to buy an ESP. and what if I have a home in Nevada and only go to CA to buy the truck and then go back to my home in Nevada? It could get murky so I think that’s why it’s just based on address when you sign up. but again, I am no lawyer.

I think they go by registration, so if it’s registered in California it’s a no go.

The upshot us Californians have is that here we get a sizeable extension on the battery and hybrid components warranty. Fords normal warranty on the battery and hybrid system for example just meets federal minimums at 8 yrs/100k miles. In California though, Ford is required to extend the coverage of the battery, battery control module, and hybrid control unit out to 10 years/150k miles. Pretty massive improvement IMO.

Outside of that, California screws us on registration because they still consider ANY "truck" a "commercial vehicle", LMAO. So there's definitely some ups and downs.
Curious is the California registration on the truck substantially more than the same valued car?

Thanks.

It's more than a comparable "non-commercial" vehicle would be of the same size/weight/class or whatever they use to classify these things and the fees that go with them. I don't know specifics, but I used to own a small pickup and remember paying an unusually large amount relative to the age and type of vehicle (a 93 GMC Sonoma). Apparently California still does this from what I was reading. Very annoying.

Just got word that my Mav arrived at the dealer. Picking it up tomorrow. They are honoring the order price. They have also offered a 7 year / 100K miles “platinum” Ford service contract for an additional $3,495. I have asked for more info but all she could tell me was that included everything except windshield, tires, and brakes. I don’t have a gauge if this a good or bad deal. Help… I’d like to phone a MTC-friend. If it helps I’m in SoCal where everything is expensive (we call it the “sun tax”).
Get a quote from Granger Ford 515 5 nine nine 5731 I got a 10 yr, 60K for $1175 that's all I need.

Yes but I was curious so I went to FloodFordesp.com and put in California and it said they couldn’t sell you a policy due to California law.
Florida has the same law, but Granger Ford will sell you a plan if you give them an out of state address. (Your son's, daughters, etc) all corrosponse is thru email, the address doesn't matter. Cell phone numbers are from anywhere. Give them a call 515 599 5731.

It doesn't say where you bought the coverage, It has the VIN# that shows your truck is covered by Ford. (Maybe you moved from state to Ca.)

Heck no, never lived in California. Couldn’t pay me enough to live there. I was speculating that maybe that’s how California enforces their law of not being able to buy warranty out of state.

My dealer’s version of Platinum was about $6k (!!!) though they were also offering ceramic coating, PPF on the front end, oil changes, etc…. I passed on all of their offerings, fully aware ahead of time of Flood Ford’s ESP pricing. A 10 year 100k Premium ESP on a brand new truck was roughly $1500. You do have your first three years to decide to even buy the ESP warranty or not.

I was concerned about costs rising in the future, which yes, everything gets more expensive, but I ran my numbers on Flood Ford both using “under 12 months” of ownership and 300 miles, vs. under 36 months of ownership and 30,000 miles. The (current) cost difference was roughly $400 more if you waited. Not much difference to me.
Good 2 Know! Thanks

yes it does . . .
California limits the sale/purchase of extended warranties from out-of-state dealers.

You suggest to falsifying the owner's resident (non-business) address on the Ford extended warranty agreement being purchased.

That appears to be a difference between us, my integrity and honesty are worth more to me than a $3000 warranty... your's? 🙄 🙄 .....

I’m in Missouri. I paid $2,825 for unlimited time, 100,000 miles with $200 deductible. Covers everything except normal wear and tear. This is for a 23 Lariat hybrid.
