It's generally true that a series of emails can form the basis of an enforceable contract. But the emails, read together, have to contain all the elements of that contract. Generally, that means at minimum an offer and an acceptance on the same terms, and some reason to believe that the writer has authority to bind the principle.

So... an email from you to the dealer saying you will buy at a certain price (by itself), or an email
from the dealer to you saying they will sell at a certain price (by itself), will probably not suffice. You need both, and the terms need to match pretty closely. Otherwise the dealer may honor it, but they may not.

To avoid unnecessary disputes, the better method is to have a writing signed by both parties that lays out the whole deal. Some people think that's too much trouble, and for many of them it will probably turn out ok anyway. But we've already seen instances where the buyer got screwed.
