Oh yeah, I'm sure there are a ton of orders in total.

I just meant, of the 100k "reservations" how many actually translated to orders? I'd still be only about 25% of them. I've read of quite a few here that placed multiple reservations and only ordered one, some like me have several reservations and still haven't placed an actual order. Someone should just make a poll how many reservations and how many orders has everyone here actually placed, then we can generate a rough idea from our sample pool lol
Someone above said 40-45K - I suspect this is probably close, if not slightly lower than actual. The Bronco had a reservation to order ratio at about 65%, which would mean 65,000 actual orders. Now, the Maverick doesn't have as much overall hype, but it is very popular. You also have to consider that taking a step from using a build&price tool to actually submitting a reservation are 2 different things entirely. You have to:

1 - know what the Maverick is
2 - go to the Ford website
3 - run through the build/price process
4 - decide you actually want a truck (a large purchase!)
5 - decide you want to pursue that with a dealer
6 - submit!

The reason I expect higher than 40-45K (though not Bronco level 65K) is that someone has to go through all of those actions to actually get to the reserve action. At that point, you are likely serious enough that you'll be ordering. After that you are dealing with a dealer, that point of human interaction is the stopping point for most people, unless you are truly serious about ordering. Are there people that did that 4-5 times? Sure, and they are probably also all on this forum and endlessly obsessed with it already. That is going to be a rare exception, most people simply don't care enough to get to that point in the process.

I've done all of these twice already, first dealer hasn't gotten back to me, STILL. Second time with the only difference being the dealer, they got back to me but I'm not paying they're outrageous fees. And I will do this a third time with Granger now that I know of their deal, just need to work out some other items and might as well wait a few more weeks so I can see/drive one in person.

Maybe there's a better way to move an initial reservation, instead of placing additional ones. I'm not sure, I have my build favorited so it's super easy to pull it right up, change the dealer and submit as many times/places as I'd like, not doing that of course, just saying how easy it is.

They could sell millions of these things... the big question is how many can they make.

According to the current forum poll, I am calculating around a 70% reservation to order ratio.

Caveats: Poll is still early (69 votes), my math could be off, and we mostly represent Maverick enthusiasts.

My dealer mentioned that the conversion rate from pre-orders to actual orders was around 20%. I think the 100k number is way overblown, but I also think that the Maverick will be an eventual big seller and bring in many people who never have considered a pickup before. Me included.

Was that 20% from that particular dealers reservations or Ford as a whole? Just curious as that number is about in line with the conversion that I had in mind as well.

Some of these dealers probably have a 0 percent conversion considering they don't bother responding to placement of a reservation, I.E. the first dealer I tried to reserve with. While others like Chapman and Granger probably have much higher conversion rates as their buyers usually are more certain to follow through.

That is impressive.

Ford Maverick pickup doesn't exist yet — but reservations from potential buyers are soaring

https://amp.freep.com/amp/8206041002

August 23, 2021

Ford Motor Co. has confirmed 100,000 reservations so far for its all-new little 2022 Maverick pickup that hasn't been built yet.

The hybrid compact pickup was just revealed in June, and it's the only pickup with a hybrid base model.

The most reservations have come from consumers in California, Texas and Florida — specifically Los Angeles, San Francisco, Houston and Orlando.

When the Maverick was revealed on June 8, consumers could go to the website to place a non-binding reservation, which basically flags dealers who consider the alert a hard lead for follow up. Some reservations have converted to orders, but Ford is not releasing details yet.
I’m thinking, now that Disney World is canceling The Magical Express (from the airport to your resort) a LOT of the Uber and Lyft drivers in the Orlando area are thinking that a lot of guests will not be paying Mears 30 bucks a head and they’ll get a ton of business, I think they are correct.

My understanding was that 20% was the total Ford conversion rate, not just his dealership. I also had a poor response from the dealer I was referred to (by closest location) and placed multiple reservations because I thought it didn't go through to them.

i agree, the ONLY way this truck will not do well is if the dealerships get GREEDY and start adding 2 grand dealer markups, that’s why I put my order in and told my dealer no markups or I’ll go someplace else. We all need to start “training” our dealers to exactly what we’ll put up with. But I guess there’s ALWAYS someone who wants to be the first kid on the block with that new toy and is will to pay for it.

This is going to sound really dumb..... But I don't know if we "reserved" or "ordered" two of them ??? I thought we "ordered" them.... as in, we sat down, picked the trim, the color, and any options we wanted, and they said, we will contact you when it comes in.....
However, and this is the important thing > we gave them NO deposit, and we made sure we were under no obligation to actually buy the vehicle. The dealer told us, their big incentive was that "this" was the only way they were going to be able to get any of them on the lot, because Ford was not going to be sending them any, just to have sitting around, while dealers tried to sell them.

So, did we "order" or "reserve" these ? What's the difference ?
Reserve is just going online and build it the way you want, ordering is sitting down with the dealer, they place a formal order, which you sign, they take a copy of your license and your email address and a phone number AND they send it off to Ford. the deposit is dealer based, some do require one (my dealership wanted a $300.00 “refundable” deposit), others like Long MacArthur don’t. So if you did ALL of those you have an order, if you didn’t the dealership will control the sale, meaning if you don’t have the order with the final price (showing no dealer markups) I’d stop by the dealership to ensure you’re not gonna get ripped off on the price, not that any dealer would do that to a customer, ha ha ha ha ha I freaking crack me up;) Good luck, hope it goes well for you.

The market price for this vehicle is higher than its list... price increases are coming. Count your lucky stars that you have your order in at these low prices.

They want you to walk away from the truck, so they can sell it with a markup. They aren’t supposed to mark up a ordered vehicle.
