2018 the United States had an safe electric car perfect for going back and forth to work and getting groceries. but nobody was buying it.
My back hurts just thinking about riding in a Smart over any kind of rough road.

Brainstorming is one of my favorite pastimes.

Reminds me that it was rumored that Rolls Royce has a locked engine compartment and only Roll repair shops have the key to open the hood to work on it, or change the oil...
Back to the Future, back in the 80’s and 90’s It was said that a Rolls Royce hood had a seal on it, like the numbered break to open seals on semi trailers.

It was said that if an owner broke that seal the warranty ended right then.

Yup, You young’ers will just have to get use to the fact that us old farts know shit .

I've been following the Aptera for a few years now, and currently, just like in prior years, it will be available "soon".. Perhaps in July.. of some year in the future... :D
It will be ready for sale in 2 years... and it always will be.

“Repair Pal” has a nice old school rat-pack ring to it? What is old is new again? Maybe different service for the broads?

Is the term “pal” becoming popular again - I’m out of touch.

BTW, it took Ford several years to develop factory trained mechs/techs after the introduction of the Model T. Originally, one was expected to have the skills to repair the car yourself. Or at least you had a couple of pals with the necessary tools & skills.

Remember the ‘Yugo’ ?
Little shit box Russian looking puddle jumper.
Buddy bought one for $100 right after the company failed.

He couldn’t even get brake pads.

We all had a blast killing the thing.

The thing didn’t last long.
Omg the Yugo
One crash and “you go”
I seen one on the road like a month ago. Rusted to hell and smoking a bit but still wouldn’t give up lol

Or. Here's a thought. Have two EV batteries (or a home wall mounted equivalent).

Which is more practical (and safer?):

A city sized battery bank for load leveling, or a fridge sized battery bank in every home that can recharge either from home solar. Or off-peak grid power?

Also. EV's can be bi-directional. Called V2G. Vehicle to grid. Your car can give to the home during the peak (or a cloudy day) and take off peak.
Is the Slate capable of V2G? If it is, I'm more interested in having one as a 2nd vehicle/Virtual Power Plant. I'd like to have battery backup and buy electricity during off-peak to sell during peak times.

Looks like a great idea with lots of options. Price is right. If reliability is there it will be a win.
Cheap price, quality made in America is pretty much non existent. Good to see we can even build something new these days.

If I’m not mistaken, the prices for options listed on the Slate Site are for materials only? DIY prices.

For example, the prices for color wraps is very inexpensive. But that price is just the materials they’ll supply to you. If you want Slate to do the wrap - it will cost more. Again, I may well be mistaken. Have not researched…

You are absolutely correct on the Wrap prices $500+is for the diy wrap kit.
You can DIY yourself😱
You hire a professional $,$$$ provided, you can find a professional who will wrap your vehicle without using their own materials??? Hopefully, slate will put together a list of cooperating installers throughout the country or at least in states where they're allowed to sell. All states do not allow direct manufacturer to consumer sales.

🙄 In slate's below statement. I find it funny that slate completely dismisses the fact that.
If you don't like the color of your car after a few years. You too, can change it with a wrap.
🙄

With other cars, you pick your color when you buy it, and that’s it. With a Slate, you can pick your color whenever—and change it whenever. It’s the first vehicle of its kind designed to be easily wrapped. And wrap kits will start around $500, so it’s easy on the wallet, too. Go wild. Or not. It’s up to you.

I had enough trouble putting decals on models when I was a kid - I could see myself horking up a $500 wrap kit pretty fast!
