OMG my crapcan '78 Fiesta mogged those things, then again it could beat a lot of that periods smog-choked dinosaur V8s from a stop to it's ungoverned top end which was well above what the speedo could indicate. The speedo needle actually looped around.

Even if the Slate is an adequate vehicle, if it doesn't sell, those "affordable" trucks could be yard art without parts availability

The safe bet is always to wait for the bugs to be worked out of an entirely new vehicle, let alone an entirely new company.

Blech. My mom somehow got convinced to buy the base model '79 four-door stripper with it's inline six. It was, in a word, the most horrible example of a new car I've driven. It was, however, utterly reliable in her hands and rarely driven in winter. To my horror she got it repainted and gifted it to me when she got a '93 Sable.

yeah, the Mav hybrid drivetrain in a little SUV would be a big hit. I'm actually surprised it ISN'T in the Bronco sport. Having just a few drivetrains shared by many models is an excellent way to cut production and repair costs.

I think the Ranchero is Job 1 for the new EV platform. Stay tuned, folks.

Brainstorming is one of my favorite pastimes. This thread is full of it, cuz so much speculation about the upcoming Slate and Ranchero.

Someone mentioned "parts availability". Well, back to the proposed in-town vehicle I find compelling, the Telo MT1. They are purposefully using as many off-the-shelf generic parts and pieces as possible to both reduce production cost but to also reduce repair/replacement costs. This is near and dear to my heart, like the growing support of "right to repair". Less nickel and diming by manufacturers to only be able to use their proprietary tools and software for a simple repair. You KNOW they would have their own exclusive fuels you'd have to buy if they could; "I'm almost on empty, I need to find Ford station to fill up!".

Reminds me that it was rumored that Rolls Royce has a locked engine compartment and only Roll repair shops have the key to open the hood to work on it, or change the oil...

Actually, this thread is about a vehicle that to this point seems to be moving from concept to reality.
Strangely, like the Royal Deluxe II, neither it nor the Adobe were top sellers in the US.

My reply was regarding the Cordoba, both it and the RDII were fine luxury automobiles built when filling up your gasoline tank didn't require a mortgage application..

Perhaps the Slate folks were thinking of the Adobe when they came up with the Slate - Especially for fixing fender benders... Instead of re-molding the clay, take out a hair dryer and melt it back into shape...

My dad had a 1977 Chrysler New Yorker Brougham with a 440ci lean-burn engine. The car had to be big enough to fit the logo. I also remember how “thick” the seats were. They were regular “couches”. The Crown Vic may have been the last one with the 10-12” thick seat backs.

Ah yes, the days of prevalent living room couches on wheels is now in the rear view mirror.

I was a passenger in my brother's Ford Cortina, when he went around a corner, not paying attention, and hit the driver's side rear of a parked Chrysler Land Yacht.

Damage to the Cortina - Total loss - DOA - Trashed the front end and engine.
Damage to the Chrysler - Cracked tail light lens.

The owner said it was the second time it happened.
The prior event as similar - He had a cracked tail light and the other vehicle was towed.

They don't make 'em like they used to...

I wonder how the Slate would do in similar circumstances... Haven't seen any crash data yet...

Telo MT1

$50k for an AWD long range - lots of competition at that price point now and they aren't close to launch. It's an interesting vehicle for sure though, I like the compact two-box design.

And it has power windows.

Another potential EV competitor for the Slate could be the Aptera..
It's a two seat three wheeled "car" rather than a truck, but it's in the same ballpark price range.
