It's also interesting to note that several of the accident threads that @Glen Baker LLC has documented appear to have been posted by users who joined the club just to share their accident. Nearly all of them have very low thread/message post counts.
It's probably in part due to people being blinded by obnoxious headlamps. Some, will even blind you in Daytime! No joke!

Like the title says. I was rear-ended by a semi at about 20 mph or so. I was lucky and the crumple zones did their job, but also unlucky in that regard as the hidden damage was extensive. Damage estimate was over $27,000 so it ended up being a total loss. Really liked the truck, luckily I still have my 2017 F-150 so I'm not in any hurry to replace.

After doing some research I was surprised to see how many Mavericks wind up totaled, even with less visual damage than mine. I understand it though...unibody construction with frame damage, typical in many modern cars. And it's a commom-sense trade off, people are harder to repair or replace. Doesn't make it suck any less though.

Honestly, I signed up for this forum just to share my story after seeing others experiences here and on Reddit. Easier to swallow when you know your experience isn't all that uncommon.

Wow, that blows. Good looking XL.

Can I have your tonneau cover?

Just kidding. Sorry, bro. There but by the grace of God, go I.

Their made to collapse, it saves lives BUT totals a lot of vehicles, parts prices don't help and salvage bids are very high it doesn't pay to fix them from the insurance company's point of view. Someone will buy that vehicle and fix it for 5/6k and pay 10/12k for the vehicle WITH a salvage Title and drive it for many years... In my younger years we would roam the salvage yards praying to find a vehicle like this to fix and sell or just keep. My wife always drove a salvage vehicle, she always had a new vehicle that no one knew was a wreck. If you knew what you were doing you could make a lot of money, only down fall was the salvage title. I always kept photos of the repair process to show how well it was repaired and most people didn't care if they were saving a lot of money.

Nowadays, the lightweight boron steel that is used extensively in the Maverick cannot be repaired it has to be replaced. The replacement part on a Ford Maverick that usually gets bent when rear-ended, isn't that ungodly expensive but the amount of Labor that's involved in replacing it, makes it uneconomical.

Interesting.. a bit more substantial than many of us thought.

The looks are a little bit deceiving. The crumple Zone reliefs that are engineered into the steel and the fact that boron steel cannot be heated and repaired.
Any bending from a Collision is considered a totaled "frame".
Below as a post from another member who documented the bending that resulted in his Maverick being totaled.
Just as a kicker if Ford has financed the vehicle, it will not accept a repair of the boron steel.
This is what they are calling frame damage:

From my insurance company "supplement estimate for a grand total of $43,114.17"

I propose that Mavericks aren't more prone to rear end crashes, and instead that the proliferation of smart phones has increased the occurrence of distracted driving that frequently causes these crashes.
I believe that our Mavericks are more prone to getting rear ended (at least the hybrids) because of the regenerative brakes. I have followed several and unless you know they can slow down significantly without the brake lights illuminating, it would be pretty easy to misjudge how quickly you’re approaching them.

When a person steps off the gas in a Prius, Tesla, Toyota RAV4 hybrid,
Chevy Bolt, Volt do the brake lights come on? They did not on my Chevy Volt unless I stepped on the brakes.
I don't know about the others. Hybrid vehicles with regenerative braking have been around a lot longer than the Ford Maverick.
Folks have gotten too interested in their damn phones. Instead of watching traffic in front of them.
