1. Touch up the bare spots.
2. Gently polish the other scratches with some rubbing compound.
3. Wash and wax the entire truck.
4. Wear your scratches proud, your badge of honor, you did that.

yep - that's the best route (well except I'd skip number 3..that's just me ...)...one other thing though when he goes go do the touch up be sure to use a magnifying glass to ensure yuo are pretty much just getting the primer and paint on the damaged spots - if you don't you might end up getting some on the non-problematic area - it's easy to do if you don't have great vision. Also be sure to get those artist brushes and start very small and move up. It's all fixable to make it 'acceptable', in the end the only one who will know and care is the owner.

I nicked the paint loading some tools. Used this touch up paint and can't even see where.
Just put a dot of paint on each metal dot. Try not to overlap the painted surface.

That would be true if the bare metal was not painted, but it sounds like painting the bare metal spots is part of the plan...

When you touch up with color, don't forget the clear coat. Let it cure then polish and wax.

No Atlas blue

I got Atlas Blue at the dealership, it was like $26 not great but I've paid more. You could check out Automotive Touch Up too, they had the color for my 91 Camaro.
