I was commenting the other day about how dark the overall interior is on my XLT hybrid. I would like a flood light below the radio too, that would really help.

Normally I just turn the screen off and use it as a clock. The car it is replacing literally has a tape deck for a radio so all the extra stuff is mostly fluff for me.

Because you have Lariat Luxury Pkg with Sync 3, all the complaints are with the base system. 😉
It’s the same screen though the software doesn’t matter

The screens on my 22 and 23 XLTs are perfectly bright...

For those who believe they have an issue, have you maxed the brightness settings on both the
instrument cluster and the center infotainment screen?

Yup, it's a crappy screen. The Maverick (with exceptions) Is a bottom of the parts bin vehicle, so that's kind of expected. Anyone who has test driven a Santa Cruz, with a bright, high resolution, large screen and modern software immediately sees the difference.

The crappy screen goes along with the crappy infotainment and the crappy rear camera. It's kind of the old saying "you get what you pay for". In the Maverick's case, I get that there is a lot of cheap stuff on the truck.

But I'm also blown away at how much engine I got for my money with the ecoboost. I'm wagering larger and better screen and infotainment with a 25 or 26 refresh, with a price increase to match. Just a guess. Based on sales, the Ford engineers seem to have done a really good of balancing cheap where most people don't care (read the posts that will surely follow) and spending money where they do care.
My screen is too bright, infotainment works flawlessly, and the rear view camera works just fine and is plenty clear enough to back up a vehicle. I do have a Lariat, but those features would seem to be universal across all trims. I hear Land Rovers are crap cars even though they are considered a "luxury brand". As for the engine, I too was surprised at how quick it is ;)

Display unit appears to be the same part number (NZ6Z10D885A), note it's listed as both "Less Sync" and "Sync III" (and under the misleading category of "GPS Navigation System"). That said, the hardware driving it, and which controls brightness, influences image quality is different. There's more to image quality than just the LCD panel itself.

It's not just software; the black (silver) box behind the dash is different (and it's actually 2 boxes for Sync 3 - APIM and ACM). Thus we have threads with instructions to swap the hardware like: https://www.mavericktruckclub.com/forum/threads/how-to-sync-3-4-swap-for-non-sync-3-xl-xlt.11860/

Does it even look dim at night or in garage?
At night time its so dim all of the letters look fuzzy and extremely difficult to read. While I'm older, younger people think its horribly dim too. I first noticed it when I 1st saw it a the dealer, but I thought the overcast weather and screen protector were the cause.

I had a 2019 Ford Transit Connect Wagon, its screen was normal, this one isn't. Oh well, life of a beta tester,

I came from a Model 3 with arguably the best screen and infotainment software in the industry (unless you get a S or X).

I was concerned that I would have major issues with the screen and the sync 2.5lite software but I just don't. With the Tesla, everything was central to the screen and OS so it had to be great.

With the Maverick - I have my preset stations, or I hit a spotify mix I like and I am not looking at the screen at all.

What I've really enjoyed coming back to is the gauge cluster and 8.5" screen for the driver.

The instrument brightness adjustment buttons by the headlight knob also affect the screen brightness, if you haven't tried adjusting that yet. Also, I just tested this on my Lariat, placing a newspaper over the light sensor on the dash makes the display very dim and I was unable to brighten it with settings. If you don't have a dash cover or anything covering that sensor, maybe it's a fault with the sensor.
