Display unit appears to be the same part number (NZ6Z10D885A), note it's listed as both "Less Sync" and "Sync III" (and under the misleading category of "GPS Navigation System"). That said, the hardware driving it, and which controls brightness, influences image quality is different. There's more to image quality than just the LCD panel itself.

It's not just software; the black (silver) box behind the dash is different (and it's actually 2 boxes for Sync 3 - APIM and ACM). Thus we have threads with instructions to swap the hardware like: https://www.mavericktruckclub.com/forum/threads/how-to-sync-3-4-swap-for-non-sync-3-xl-xlt.11860/

I have never had reason or interest in looking up the part numbers, but the Sync3 display is listed in the specs as capacitive touch, and the Ford Connected Audio display is listed as resistive touch. I think that's pretty compelling evidence that the displays are not the same.

Related-
I have seen the image quality differences with the backup cameras on sync3 and base infotainment. I was in a different discussion where I wondered if it was possible to use the rear camera from a sync3 system on a base system, and someone stated that the cameras are actually the same, and the image quality difference is due to sync3 vs base.

Correction, these two screenshots show the same PN for both Sync III and Less Sync, not sure why it posted the wrong ones before. ;)

Where do you see reference to a resistive display on the base system? If that were the case, we'd see widespread complaints not just about brightness and image quality, but also about the touch sensitivity of the screen.

Think of it this way. The computer with the graphics card (GPU) is the APIM for Sync 3, or the box for the base system. A lesser graphics cars will have worse image quality with the same input video and the same display. Thus, the backup camera looks worse, even though the screen and camera are the same. Any complaints with the system UI in general will be similar.

2023+ Escape does offer two different rear cameras - the standard analog one similar to Maverick's and a fancy digital one to go with the 12.3" display and 360Âş camera system. Maverick doesn't have that feature (yet).

that would explain the image quality but not the capacitive vs resistive touch. maybe they're both capacitive and the resistive is listed in the spec in error.

My guess is that's erroneous. Haven't seen a resistive panel on a mass market product in many years, and the world is better off as a result. ;)

hmm, you know, though.

if the screens are the same and every time I've seen someone complain about a dim screen they don't have sync3... I am guessing that the OP in this topic does have an issue, and I'd further guess that their dealership needs to warranty replace the Ford Connected Audio module and not the screen.

The screen on my truck, 2023 XLT, is plenty bright when on the regular screen or using the backup camera. Where it dims somewhat, for whatever reason, is when using Apple CarPlay. It is still usable but not as bright as when I first get in the truck and the Home Screen comes on..

Driving at night, Google Maps is perfect with night mode on.

One can also improve night time performance of the backup camera with the addition of LED back up bulbs. It made night time use of the camera for me from marginal to very good.

Comparing to Hyundai is tough. Hyundai rarely takes a back seat to anyone in the tech department.

Agreed. Definitely worth letting the dealer take a look at it.

I will check out all of the most recent suggestions this afternoon and report back. Thanks to all who are chiming in, I really appreciate it.

I also plan on checking the screens of other Mav owners at the next meetup, and documenting differences for a future Maverick Pros n Cons review video for my channel.

Not ready to take it in so quickly after just getting it, but needs must. Also they basically told me that to get a loaner car I need to know at least 2 to 3 weeks in advance that there is going to be a problem and get on the waiting list. I understood not having loaner cars during covid when the lots were empty, but now they are full. When I brought my Transit in last time, they told at least 2 weeks before I could get a loaner.

yes, agreed, there were no cars new or used in 21 & 22, so it was hard to do service loaners. but now that should not be the case.

is it an option to try another ford dealership? I understand they sold you the truck and most people would prefer to stay there for service, but some dealerships are just better than others with service loaners. there are 3 ford dealerships within 15 miles of me, maybe you have options also.

I plan asking the other owners at the meetup , about the service at their dealers.

Another thing not mentioned here is a bug in the software that keeps the screen from going full bright. I think the trick is to adjust (on the screen slider) to full dim, then go back to full bright. See if that makes a difference. I remember mine seeming dim when I first got the truck and that fixed it. Hasn't been an issue since.

Another bug I've noticed is that my ambient lighting resets to off occasionally and I have to go in and slide it back up. (I have non Lux lariat, so no Sync 3)

I wouldn't call mine necessarily dim, but maybe slightly dim and not crisp. I have an XLT and my sister has the Lariat. If I go from her truck to mine, I think someone stole my radio and replaced it with an etch-a-sketch!
