So a 2000's Escape is to the '21 Bronco Sport as the 90's Ranger is to the '22 Maverick.

I think they should have called the current ranger the F-100 like the old days and the Maverick be the Ranger. Wouldnt that be cool?
That actually sounds like a cool idea. Ford probably should have done that several years ago instead of killing off the Ranger in NA. Then again, would we have something like the '22 Maverick if they did? **plays X-Files theme music**

Yes, but in those days the bed was 8 feet long. It was not a truck if you could not put a 4X8 sheet of plywood in the back.
There never was an 8 foot bed ranger. The standard bed was 6 foot on both regular and extended cab. I think for a period there was a 'long bed' option on a regular cab that was 7 foot.... if I remember correctly.

Man, for me, the Maverick is a dream vehicle. I drove that same ranger for years and loved every minute of it. I was super bummed out that the new rangers were so much bigger and expensive, so I gave up trying to own a smaller truck. I'm ecstatic that Maverick the new spiritual successor to the old Ranger. This comparison was a relief for me to see the similarities. I know a lot of people preordering will be disappointed on how small it is, but for me this is perfect. Ford really nailed their target audience well. *steps off soap-box*

Thanks for the photos. If I could have found a decent older Ford Ranger, the size that's in the photo, I would have bought it. I'm not really fond of buying used vehicles but my Tundra was just too big for me to maneuver around in tighter places any more. I ain't as young as I use to be, handsome, but just old😎 So, if these pictures are accurate, this little Maverick will be perfect for me. I'll miss the Tundras power, at first, but I'm sure I'll get use to it.

I stand corrected, thanks for setting the record straight. I have ben driving an 2001 Ranger, with a six foot bed, for 20 years and I thought the bed was short because it has the extended cab.

In any case 20 years ago when you bought a full size pick-up, not the Ranger, you generally got an 8 foot bed. Now an 8 foot bed is rare.

Yeah it's amazing how quickly you get use to seeing so many full size trucks that are the Supercrew and 5.5 foot bed. For a while I wanted a F150 Supercrew with a 6' bed.... you rarely see them but when I see them now it looks a little odd to me. My wife's family has a used car dealer in another state and use to say people were always looking for the F150 supercrew with the 6' bed, it always surprised me you don't see many of them around.

I had a 1998 GMC Sonoma that I bought new and had for 7 years, and a 2002 Ranger I bought used after the GMC and had it for about 5-6 years before I wrecked it. As much as I would love to have a new full size truck.... I don't think I can bring myself to spend that kind of money on one......so the Maverick has me excited.

Thanks, @administrator and @“A Dodge that drives Fords” for the pics! I’m curious to know what your Rangers’ tire diameter or tire size is.

The comparison many have been waiting for! 2022 Maverick vs its spiritual ancestor the 2008 Ranger (regular cab).

Thanks to @Cocogasm for these taking these great comparison pics!

Here's how they match up on paper:

2008 RANGER
Height 67.7 in.
Length 203.6 in.
Width 69.4 in.
Wheelbase 125.9 in.

2022 MAVERICK
Height 68.7 in.
Length 199.7 in.
Width 72.6 in.
Wheelbase 121.1 in.

This is a great comparison! I own a '04 Ranger so this something I find very useful.

I think it's like a Ford Flex with the cargo area chopped. Similar specs:

Length: 202"
Width: 76"
Height: 68"

Same towing specs, too (2000#).
