Hi all, I purchased a 22 XLT lux pack hybrid back in June w/ about 10,000 miles to replace my 2019 Mercedes c300 when we moved from the city to a rural area in SW Michigan. At 14xxx miles now, I am loving nearly 50mpg and the Maverick overall, but have been plagued with some issues that have me considering switching to an ecoboost. At 11,000 miles, I had a severe coolant leak (would go from max to min line every 100 miles). Turned out the exhaust heat exchange was leaking. Then remote start wouldn’t work. Took into dealer who reset it and got it working. Now I’m having battery issues. If the car sits more than a day, the battery will go flat and the car goes into “deep sleep mode” after being parked for an hour. I’ve also been plagued with electronic issues since day one. CarPlay only works half the time, screen randomly restarts while driving, and my bed lights wouldn’t turn off until I disconnected and then reconnected battery.

Though I love my hybrid, I’m curious if any of you have switched from a hybrid to an ecoboost as my car has spent a total time at the dealer or 8 weeks since I got it late June. Online, the ecoboost seems to have a higher reliability score so far and I’d like the capacity to have AWD now that I’m in a snow my area. It also seems like the early 22s have more issues than 23s.

Thanks for the input everyone!

I got to say it again: never, never buy a vehicle in it's first model year. Not only was your 22 Mav the first model year; but it was really a new type of truck for Ford. Sure Ford was able to rely on many tried and true systems and parts but the 22 was very special. Recommend you sell it; and if you still want a Mav; get a 24. Good luck.

Had 12 recalls (all minor) on my 2nd year Mini-Cooper S in first year.
Had 14 recalls on company's Hynd. KIA - in two year.
Had 2 recall on Porsche Cayman S - in first 8 years.
Had 3 recalls on company Maverick EcoBoost -(20,000 miles) in first year.
Had 1 recall on 2022 Maverick Hybrid (19,000 miles -in 2 yrs) - in first year (rear ceiling airbag) Hybrid build date was Dec 19, 2021.

So my Mav Hybrid has been the most reliable.
Needed to sale one of our Mavericks, so the 44 MPG Hybrid was the KEEPER!

If Ford cannot or will not fix the battery going flat every day it sits or sleep mode after an hour I would get rid of the truck in a New York minute. Not trying to tell you what to do, just stating no way at my age I could deal with that grief and aggravation.

My EB will go into battery saver mode if it sits for more than a week or so as the interior lights and infotainment screen will not turn on, BUT the truck starts right up, immediately starts charging the AGM battery at 15V. The only issue is the A.S.S. has quit working and all things evaluated I now consider that a blessing.

I have never seen deep sleep mode. Not even sure what is involved with that honestly.

I have stated many times I would still be driving a Maverick had I purchased an Ecoboost. My failed logic at the time was based on all of the conversation that Ford had refined this hybrid system in their 20 year experience with the Escape and Fusion. Problem is that they cheapened the Maverick to meet the sub-$20K price point and we paid for it in reliability.
Lots of nice features and styling, but I've enjoyed the troublefree life without it.

That's too bad, really. Sad because my Maverick is an incredible truck. The EB is ballsy enough for me, the AWD is remarkable and the independent rear suspension is a godsend on the back washboard roads around here. I won't even get into all the great features of the FX/4 package but suffice to say I really love those no brand name mono shocks. :ROFLMAO:

No way trying to drive a wedge between the EB and Hybrid crowd here. I would love the 50 mpg or so, incredible, but I'm happy and the EB just works for me.

Agree on everyone’s thoughts so far. EB & hybrid communities both love their trucks for good reasons. My truck was delivered late April 2022. It was a very early build date and as some have mentioned, some newer tech. The warranty for the hybrid powertrain is spectacular, just wish parts were easier to get. Seems every time my truck goes in, it sits for weeks. I test drove a 23 cactus gray fx4 EB before I got my hybrid. They wanted 2500 over sticker plus around 2k in “ceramic coating and nitrogen tires” which I didn’t want to pay. I think I will run this car a full year and hope I worked through its kinks. If not, I would like to order a tremor.

It seems like those mavericks built during the first few months were the most problem prone. Near the second half of 2022, the reliability seems to have improved massively. Bought ours in October of 2022, it was built in May, not a single issue thus far.

My EB had a bad seat belt sensor out of the box, had the rear window regulator crap out and of course the air bag recall. Each one required a trip back to the dealer. Without a doubt the most repairs I've ever had on a new vehicle. Ain't nobody got time fo dat.

My last car was a Mazda 3 in the first year of a major redesign. ZERO problems with that car despite them using a new drive train, etc..

Farley has been mouthing the words about improving quality but given their history it's hard to see Ford changing much if at all. It's a shame because the design concept is excellent. I really like the vehicle and the ability to order pretty much exactly what I wanted.

If I have a major problem I'm done. Maybe Toyota will have their compact pickup out by then or I'll just get that telluride I've been eying up.

absolutely! My neighbor has a 2022 hybrid he took delivery of in September I believe. He has 40k miles as his commute to work is over an hour and he has had zero issues besides the screen freezing once.

Funny thing was I traded in my Mercedes with 50k miles for this car bc I wanted something reliable. Mercedes I had zero issues with in 2.5 years and 30k miles. Not even so much as a buggy screen etc. before that, I had a 2013 Audi a4. Traded it with 120k miles with less than $1000 spent in repairs besides normal maintenance over the 6 years and 68k miles I had ownership.

It seems like you were just in that unlikely 1-2% of owners who ends up with a lemon unfortunately. The maverick is solid, but statistical outliers will always exist my friend, especially with a large sample size. It's kinda of like how the Prius is objectively one of the most reliable cars you can buy, but you'll still near stories about people having issues.

My grandma's friend had a Prius that was hit with a $14,000 repair bill, this was way back when, when hybrids were still expensive to repair. The car was under warranty, but Toyota refused to help her. So she ditched it, and bought a c-max, basically the same hybrid system as the maverick, no issues to this day. Same with my uncles '09 escape, which has basically the exact hybrid system the maverick does.

There really aren't any bad cars anymore, some people get unlucky. The fact that I know someone who had a unreliable Prius doesn't mean the Prius is unreliable overall. Or how I know multiple people having severe issues with their Camry's, or how everyone I know personally with a Honda civic has had major issues with it, or how I've known people who'd had tons of issues with brand new Toyota trucks. Those are all examples of the famous Toyota and Honda brands not living up to their reputation. But it doesn't mean all their cars are bad. It just means some people get unlucky sometimes. Yesterday it was you, tomorrow, it may be me.

Reliability in new vehicle is expected. Either it delivers or it gone. I have a 23 Hybrid with no reliability issues. Not enough miles yet to determine dependability. Observing the reports of deep sleep issues and CV axle failures on hybrid I'm considering an extended Ford warranty from Granger.
8 weeks in the shop. Get a 24 Ecoboost AWD. Or extend the warranty on your 22 Hybrid.

Ditto…… same here ordered July of 2021 went into May 2022 arrived last week of September 2022 , picked up first week in October 2022. Hybrid no issues ever the manufacturer must of got a shipment of quality parts for production and the workers must of been in a great mood and produced quality at that time. Lol……
