Had my maverick lariat for 3 years now and almost hitting 60k miles. Everything was fine until one day I decided to take it to work because I wanted to give my other car I purchased a break from the drive. The maverick desides to break down on me. Driving down the freeway a 65mph I get a check ending light and the trucks speed drops to 25moh. Luckily there was an exit right away and had to drive back home at 20 mph which made me late for work by the way. Desided to drive the truck to the dealership after going to work for 4 hours and loosing pay. Never the less I get a call from the dealer on Monday claiming my engine is toast and I need a new one. I'm not to pleased with ford on the Maverick's reliability. I'm considering selling the truck or trading it out for a Toyota because I've been a Toyota guy for a while and decided to switch models and this is what happens to an almost brand new vehicle because 3 years in not old at all. So for anyone owning a 2022 maverick hybrid please try to get close to 60k miles to see if your engine decides to give up before your warranty expires. Luckily ford will replace the engine free if it's still under warranty. So now that my new engine is on my truck ford calls me and tells me that the tech who installed my motor bent an AC line. Now I have to wait for the AC line to arrive and get that on and recharge my AC. Seriously this truck is starting to give me nightmares into the future where I have to replace a bunch of crap. I'm sorry ford but you did a horrible job with he hybrid maverick. Hopefully the all gas version's don't need a an engine replacement as well. Please people check your app for the costumer satisfaction programs for any issues related to your specific truck year.

Sorry but these kinds of things happen on early model years of a new vehicle. For what it’s worth, my mother bought a 2019 RAV4 hybrid which was the first year of that generation. It had a problem with the fuel tank where it would only let you fill it halfway before clicking off the gas pump. It took more than six months for Toyota to even acknowledge there was a problem and another several months to issue a fix for it. The moral of the story is that even Toyota isn’t immune to first model year woes. I’ll give Ford credit that when they find an issue they admit it unlike some companies (looking at you Honda with your gasoline lubricated earth dreams engines).

This issue has nothing to do with early model years. It is due to known manufacturing flaw in the 2.5L engine, which is not even remotely a new engine BTW, that were made during that time period. There is a recall for Mavericks, Escapes, and Corsairs made during this same time period. We had another post with the same issue just last week.

Ford did everything in their power to avoid doing anything for this issue. Ford's fix was to drill holes in the underbody tray and remove shutters on the front grill. The NHTSA made them do the recall that implemented the noted limp mode, and extended warranty on these engines.

Knocking on wood as I type this, but I’ve been here for a year now since August. And to me it seems that the Majority of Mav problems are with the Hybrids. Not trying to be an a$$ hole here but that’s the reason ‘I’m cookin’ with Gas.’ Besides, I’m totally ignorant when it comes to Hybrids. Was totally ignorant when it came to a 4 bangin Turbo, but this group helped me a lot! Before I retired I’ve always owned big cube V-8’s, I understood them and no problem working on them. But… time to get with the times! 😉

An the expected and totally off topic (glad I got an EB) post has arrived. :ROFLMAO: Guess what, the problem is the gas engine. :p

And I do realize that my Fellow British Columbian, it’s just that I know ‘Dick’ about hybrids but a little more about petrol engines, and if you mate the 2 of them together, wow, I’m lost! That’s all 😉

But…. I have the 2.0 litre Gas, not the troubled, 2.5 litre hybrid , but that don’t make a difference right? 🤔

Not much to know, it's just an ICE with an electric planetary gear box attached to an electric drive motor essentially. Not much different than a modern diesel electric train in principle (functional different, but similar idea). An ICE is an ICE, the problem has nothing to do with it being a hybird.

First rule of Maverick Truck Club. NEVER TELL WHY YOU DIDN'T BUY A HYBRID. It just brings out the smug and condescension towards us woefully ignorant EB buyers. :cwl:
Smug hybrid owners? All I see is smug EB owners coming into threads that have nothing to do with their trucks raving how great their EB is and that they are glad they didn't get a hybrid. :ROFLMAO:

Sounds like you had the recalls done - or you wouldn't have had that response before the smoke came out from under the hood. So it wasn't toasted yet, but it could have been later.

But it also sounds like you didn't know the reason for one of the recalls, or your issue.
Manufacturing defect in bearing. Small subset of vehicles. They aren't sure which engines got them, but only the manufacturing run of trucks.

For engines having a recall and having problems - read up very carefully on whatever vehicle you think it's safe to move to. This is not unheard of at all.

Even the EB engine could have had such a problem!

Nothing to do with how long the engine has been used in vehicles, or where it was assembled, ect.

And AC damage was obviously a mistake by the tech. That's not specific to Ford or the hybrid.
You've never heard of a mistake on an oil change that resulted in a much worse outcome?

Thanks for proving my point. Meeka nor myself said anything about how "great our EB" is. Didn't know the forum restricts free speech. :lipssealed:
It doesn't. I'm also free to criticize you, it's a two way street. :p

A few things: I think the Campaign 23N06 To replace the longblock Is longer than the drivetrain warranty. My letter says 10 years and 100,000. And for the people who say this is a reason why I wouldn't buy a hybrid, This is the type of defect that could affect gasser. A process doesn't polish a crankshaft correctly. In fact, the gas engine on the hybrid is far more simple than the EcoBoost, runs at lower compression doesn't have a turbo., not a complicated transmission. It's supposed to be a really small sample of engines, so I'm curious in the long run how many there actually are. The problem with these news groups is that you hear about the two that blew up but not the other 99,998 that didn't. On the positive note, you have a new engine at 60,000.

Yet WE didn't criticize you at any time. Big difference between making a purchase based on real or perceived issues and criticizing the person for making that decision. You are free to criticize the EcoBoost ALL you want.
Edit: I may have insulted you with the truth but I did not criticize.
That’s the difference between us, I have no issue with the EB. You don’t insult me with the truth, because you didn’t use it. :ROFLMAO: Anyway enough of this nonsense, let’s try to stay on topic.

Toyota is not much better nowadays, just ask the Tundra guys 🤣. Just use your Maverick with a brand new engine and please, for the love of God, change the oil every 5k.

To be fair, Toyota is just outright replacing the affected engines, rather than waiting for the failures to affect customer. It’s not the problems you have, it’s how you deal with them that makes a difference In customer service.
