So, recently did my second oil change on my 2022 EB. As you can see in the report, I was running AMSOIL Signature Series 100% Synthetic in 5w30. Run time on the oil was 5,600 miles. Note this change interval is WELL BELOW factory recommendation, and the onboard oil life meter indicated 50 percent oil life remaining.

All in report looks good EXCEPT the analysis shows a fuel dilution of greater than 5%, and SEVERELY low viscosity.

Anecdotally I can confirm the oil definitely had a strong fuel odor when emptied. So, not surprised by result. Question is, what to do? Obvious answer is shorten change interview to perhaps 4,000 miles and sample again.

But beyond that, any other recommendations? Catch can? Vented oil cap?

Sounds like you've got a problem.
Doubtful. In fact, I would be surprised if many Mavericks didn't return a similar result if tested. As the report says, high fuel dilution is common in direct injected engines.

I don't drive a ton. Making many short trips, where the engine doesn't get super hot, could contribute to this as less fuel may be burned off as it circulates through the engine.

I highly doubt there is any real problem with the issue, or short-term danger to its operation, which is perfect. My concern in testing/monitoring is more about long-term reliability of the engine, and I would think doing what I can to reduce fuel dilution will be beneficial for the long run.

I trust the results. Did you read the notes? I quote:

"High fuel dilution can be common in direct injected engines. Although fuel dilution is flagged at a high level there is no apparent wear. Continue to monitor trend."

What part of that leads you to believe my truck is in imminent danger of failure?

Truck is still practically brand new. I test to monitor. Easiest solution is to shorten oil change interval and retest.

I'm not saying fuel dilution is good. I'm just saying it's not uncommon for GDI engines, and I'm sure many Mavericks have similar result. I am sharing this info here for fellow Ecoboost owners to be aware. 7,500-mile factory recommendation may be far too long if I had this at 5,600 miles.

Will go to 4,000 for next change, re-test and re-evaluate.

That's why the frequency of oil changes are increased for this type of use.

Curious, did the oil nanny call for this oil change?

While yours is "double" the accepted amount, you brought to light, in my Hybrid I fall into this category.

Many (almost all) short trips.
While the engine sometimes gets to full temperature, it does not sit there very long. I may be susceptible to gas dilution as well.

Moral of the story, run top quality motor oil and change every 3500 miles MAX. Unless of course one plans on getting rid of the truck before the drivetrain warranty expires, then who cares, except maybe the next guy but that's part of the crap shoot buying used. Good luck. Enjoy your truck.

Even in this day and age, motor oil is still much cheaper than the alternatives. :confused:

The majority of 2-liter EcoBoosts go by the oil minder, if not worse. I doubt you'll have any issues.

Fuel dilution is a product of never getting the oil up to operating temperature. Really high fuel dilution is a product of a cold start, short idle period and then an oil change. I have 4 DI Ford engines that regularly get up to temperature and oil changes are performed after cool down not after cold start. Never had the slightest fuel dilution.

I used to be a member of an oil forum that had alot of good information on oil analysis's and these type questions. https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/

Perhaps someone there has an EB and an oil analysis to compare to. Wouldn't hurt to look, if a person was slightly concerned.
