I’m coming up on 2 years with my ‘22 XL Hybrid. I will also echo many of the comments. I am coming up to 40k mileage with no issues.

The Good:

Fuel mileage has far exceeded the EPA ratings. I’m at about 44mpg average.

Plenty of usable power for most daily use. I’ve never really felt wanting for power for my commute.

The utility for a smallish truck. I done multiple dorm and apartment moves for my kids . Numerous multi-state runs ( my daughter is currently using it for a move to TN). I carted needful of mulch, deck tiles and flat boxes from IKEA will still averaging over 40mpg.

The Not so good:

Multiple recalls ( to be fair I haven’t done a single one yet). I will get them done all at once when I can leave it the dealership.

occasional grabby brakes/clunk issues at parking lot speeds. Hopefully the TSB will fix that issue.

Thin Paint- not just a Ford or Ford Maverick issue these days. It seems most new cars are doing more with less paint.

Front Seats are good but not great . I have some back issues and am sensitive to car seat design. Considering I put a deposit on this sight unseen and waited 11 months, I can live with that.

Final 2 Year thoughts:

This is an extremely good all in one vehicle. I does my mindless commute thing well. It does suburban hauling duties . It return excellent mileage for day to day use with a comfortable ride.

Two years ago today I purchased a XLT Maverick Hybrid, it's been a real journey since then. Lots of firsts for sure, and some that I hope are lasts. The entire process from ordering to living with this truck as my one and only vehicle has been a mixed bag. I don't have a long distance commute, just a 25-30 minute drive to work, so I'm only at a little over 15k miles.

This picture below is from within the first month, August 2022. At that point the only add-on was a backflip MX4. Added Lasfit LED's winter of 2022, not sure I'd bother doing it again. Winter of 2022 I swapped the OEM tires out for Nokina WR-G4 all weather tire, not a bad tire all around compared to the stock ones. Think I'd get CC2s, they were out of stock everywhere when I got new tires, so that was that. In March of 2023 I added Elevate rails and bed rack. Perfect for work stuff, and fun stuff.
Z6R1970.jpg

Over all driving impressions and comfort is where I will start. Driving the Maverick is pleasant for the most part, cannot say it's been bad. Not a lot of rattling other than on rough roads, some of the rattle is likely my stuff under the back seat, and some of it is plastic being plastic. Handling is good in all the weather conditions I've driven in, sunny, wet, snow, and icy, so with the right tires for the conditions, no problems at all. I used to play around with drive modes at the beginning, but haven't touched the button since the last time I took a heavy load to the dump in the winter. For a boaty SUV like vehicle the Maverick handles well, I find it better than the 2013 RAV4 Limited I had before, but not as nice as my Camry Hybrid was. Handling does change with loads, as one would expect, so you do have to be more cautious once you have 500+ pounds in the bed. I maxed out payload once, and that was interesting, just a big adjustment for braking. As for the seats, I've only ever sat in the driver seat and it's comfortable enough. I tend to get uncomfortable after sitting for over an hour period, so it's no fault of the truck once I'm past that point. I haven't heard any complaints from passengers about seat comfort.

a-50416641.jpg

The utility of the Maverick is by far it's best feature, I've loaded up with soil, mulch, and taken plenty of loads of green waste away. It's been great for transporting my kayak and camping gear. This past spring I add a mini tent trailer to the list and that is working out very well. Being able to do all that and averaging over 5.1L/100km (over 40MPG) overall has been great.

IMG_0770blankplate.jpg

The so far so goods:
Unlike some people I've had no issues with the front windshield, still have the original OEM glass. So far no CV axle issues. I have had deep sleep, but I don't use the Fordpass app, I have remote start on the key fob. Since I had the last set of recall updates done in mid-June 2024 the truck has not gone into deep sleep, at least not yet and the truck gets driven 5 days a week minimum. Interior plastic is holding up fine, a few scratches, but nothing more than in any other vehicle I've owned and in the same places too. No paint issues. I scratched a little bit off of the rail behind the back window with some yard waste, but that was easily fixed. I put some protective automotive tape there, no more chance of paint loss. Most importantly the truck has never lost power, and never not started.

The only real not so goods are due to the laundry list of recalls (9), plus the customer satisfaction programs, and some minor build quality issues. The high mount brake light filled up with condensation starting last winter for example. The infotainment system still freezes up sometimes, just last week the backup camera froze the system, had to do a hard reset because it would not turn off even after turning the truck off. Hopefully no new issues come up, and no more recalls! I've had airbags done, and engine fire recall stuff (3x), along with tail lights and a bunch of other stuff, some of which were never an issue. Airbag recall was done really well, which took two days, never would have known they'd done it after. All the software stuff was done reasonably fast, first bunch took more than a day for some reason. The only real negative experience has been dealership related, but that's not really an issue with the Maverick itself.

To wrap thing up I think the Maverick has been a good vehicle to own, not trouble free by any means, but not a total nightmare either.
That is AWESOME! Being the First Production Model Year, some problems are to be Expected. Again, Glad to hear that your Maverick has lived up to what you were looking for. I have the XLT EcoBoost, and I Love It!

Over 22K here and it' been 2 years until a couple of days ago when it just shut down in the middle of the drive and would not accelerate. It hasn't repeated but I'm taking it to the dealer tomorrow to troubleshoot or document the incident for future in case it happens again.

2 years and 35k miles traded it in on a 24 and got a $1000 more than I paid for it. Had shafts , airbags and other recalls but was a great deal. Now it's a parts runner for the dealership.

Good interesting review.
I passed the 2 year mark in March with my 2022 Maverick Lariat. For me the Mav has everything I wanted in a truck. I especially enjoy the little things like xm-radio, heated steering wheel and seats, and the adaptive Cruise control. I have put 1400 lbs of patio block in the bed coming home from one of the DIY stores and done loads of mulch and dirt. The truck now has over 40k miles and averages over 40mpg. I put about 60 hwy miles on the truck driving to and from work. I have done all the recalls. I was pleasantly surprised at how great the front-wheel-only truck drives in the snow. I guess the engine on top the drive wheels really makes a difference. The only issue I noted was, when it is very wet outside, the brakes get touchy. But I am used to that now. I will be trading in for a New 2025 Maverick Lariat when they come available this year.

Thanks for the review. Overall, I'd say that my review would be a bit more positive than yours.

I've owned my 2022 Lariat hybrid for 29 months. Inasmuch as I own 5 vehicles, I've only put 9,600 miles on it.

Nary a single paint or plastic or rattling issue. IMO, seating comfort is perfect, i.e., firm yet relaxing.

Only 6 recalls had me back to the dealer, not 9 (maybe that's due to the dealer doubling up on fixing some of the coding/software-related ones). One "deep sleep" episode, but that was over 6 months ago (I believe it's been resolved by recall work and the dealer's own tinkering). But I'm on my third dealer-provided 12v battery.

Since delivery, I've averaged 45.3 mpg in mostly suburban/mixed driving.

One thing: I almost stopped reading when you said "For a boaty SUV like vehicle the Maverick handles well, I find it better than the 2013 RAV4 Limited I had before, but not as nice as my Camry Hybrid was." "Boaty" is the last descriptor I'd use on the Mav, and why would you even try to compare its handling with a smaller sedan's?

Thanks for your review! Nice detailed points. Luckily, we have had NO problems with our hybrid XLT! phew. None. Have done all the recalls except the latest Customer satisfaction one for the engine block as we have had no warning lights come on. Fingers crossed we are one of the lucky ones who won't need it. But Nice to know we have the option to have it fixed for 10 years/100K miles. Thanks!

I've got 9 recall letters, thus 9 recalls. Some are for the same thing (3x engine fire recall) still separate recalls, they have different recall codes. Sorry to hear you've had battery issues, but cars the sit are cars that die. That's how things go. That why I have one.

I consider anything other than sedans boaty, too slow in corners. Sorry that bothers you. 🤣

Why compared it to a sedan? I compared it to other vehicles I've owned, don't like it, too bad. Camry is smallish? It was only 10 inches shorter in length than the Maverick, and only 5 inches less side to side. Hardly small. Have a clue before saying non-sense.

The Camry is a small car as it sits, and, comparatively, is significantly "less" in length, width, and weight than the Maverick--which just happens to be a very small pick-up truck.

Beyond being 10 inches shorter in length and 5 inches less in width, on average a Camry is 600 lbs lighter than a Mav. In automotive design and manufacturing, those are BIG differences.

But, of course, you're free to compare your Mav's road handling with other cars you've owned. Me? I'll not be comparing my Mav's handling with the Corvette sitting in my garage.

Nah really, I never noticed that two of the vehicles I owned were different, gee thanks captain obvious. 😩 The horse is dead, stop beating it.

Took delivery of my 2022 XL Hybrid zero options truck 7/23/22. Previously had a from-new '86 Ranger XL 2.9 V6 5-spd 14.5 yrs, then a from-new '00 Ranger XLT Sport 4.0 V6 5-spd 20 yrs. I'd been waiting for hybrid small truck life but Ranger didn't do that when re-intro'd in '19, nor did Santa Cruz. So, Mav was a combo of returning to small truck life w/hybrid / retirement gift to myself.

I've only got ~7600 mis. on it but make these observations. Zero issues with it. Potential oil leak/fire recall done at dealer on delivery day - removing one slat from cooling louvers(?), drilling some holes in an underside shield. Side curtain airbag recall was hosed a bit by dealer, but they made good on all mistakes & had me in a loaner F-150 whilst doing so. The five software patches were done by Sedano Ford's mobile service truck in my garage at my house - wow!

The only routine servicing has so far been covered fully by Ford points - two oil change/rotation services at the dealer. Almost forgot, an RV/Hitch servicer/installer right across the street from the dealer where purchased was actually purchased by that dealer years ago. So, my hitch & 7-pin connector install (about $1300) to pull our SCAMP also built me some more Ford points.

Truck delivers advertised gas mileage for me. Drives like a dream. Pulls our (brand new in 2023) SCAMP camper trailer (curb weight within warranty limits at 1900 lbs) with no issue, but that's only on 2 local trial runs. We have yet to haul the SCAMP on a long run. Though I will say it felt good hauling out on the interstate with no handing or performance issues.

Like another person said in this forum, " Its longevity is still the great unknown." I sure hope it does good in the long haul.

I too have a 2022 XLT and we have had zero issues with ours. We have driven it twice to Southern CA from WA and back no issues at all. Like you, my only issues have been with our local dealer and getting the recalls taken care of. So far, it's been one of the most trouble free vehicle purchases of the past 50 years and we are loving 40+mpg.

Same here with the 2022 Hybrid XL. 2 years next week. 10K miles. Only recall I've had done was the airbag. Holding off on the others to make sure the kinks have been worked out. Love everything about this little truck. Only problem was a dead battery- my fault- left the interior lights on. Wife says the seats are more comfortable than her Civic.
