Anyone else with this issue with the 12v accessory under the dash? 2 adapters that don’t have over voltage protection eventually bit the dust with a nice electrical smell and 2 I ordered with over voltage protection cut off after a few minutes disabling the adapter.

Not exactly, but I plugged an LED work lamp into mine and the light flashed and flickered. Had the dealer look at it and they confirmed it happened on another vehicle with an inverter. They called ford about it and were told it was an "incompatible light". It smells like BS but how do you prove them wrong? It would not surprise me at all to find out the inverters are bad. I tested the light on a cheapass inverter and it worked fine. I may remove mine and replace it with a pure sine wave inverter anyway. It's no use if it's gonna fry everything you plug into it.

Ok cool. Thanks for the info. If I plug my GoPro into it, the screen while recording has a flicker.

Incompatible. Lol. If the voltage requirement is correct and your light doesn't draw more than the rated amps, it's compatible. That's some bs.

Are you referring to a 2 prong outlet which comes with the optional 400 watt inverter or the cigarette lighter plug-in? I didn't opt for the 400 watt inverter option and only have the usb-Cs and cigarette plug. Thanks

I remember several years ago when they first started putting all the high tech crap in our patrol cars we were barred from using the 12v under dash socket. Nothing but old school stuff in that. Seams like Ford hasn't updated that socket yet. Time to dig out an old cigarette lighter.

Bad adaptors? (Made in China?). Do you have another vehicle you can try the over-voltage protection adaptors in?

I mean, aren't they all made in China at this point? Good idea. I will try the protected ones in my other vehicle.

For reference, this is the protected one I purchased...

Yup. There is something weird about the power here. I didn't realize OP was talking about the 12v outlet. If the 12v is unstable it's not clear what an inverter can do to clean it up.

FWIW I am using one in my Hybrid Lariat FE. It is several years old and does not support the ultra fast charging it does monitor the voltage on the dash power port which obviously is on the buss recharging the vehicle 12v battery as I see up to 14.8 volts when dc/dc converter first fires up and will slowly recede, presumably as the 12v approaches 100% charge. What voltage are you seeing or does yours not also show voltage? There should be a very high amperage available since there are fuzes up to 60amps on the 12v buss. Is there a current limiter on the dash power point? Should there be? The flickering on led lights MIGHT indicate that the smoothing capacitors for the 3 phase mg1 generator either are not working or possibly the DC/DC converter is not filtering the current I am not an electrician so am only guessing. I cannot imagine that voltage variations at the speed of mg1 would be noticable. Perhaps the adaptors you order need to be the ones that the manufacturer shows 14-15 volts in their ad? Good luck!

See my other response in this thread. I notice that yours only goes up to 12.6 volts where my monitor shows voltage normally starting at 14.7 and I have seen voltage as high as 14.8. since I see this voltage and it is what is expected for a 12v deep cycle battery I am assuming that is what is in my hybrid. Also note that in the manual there is an up to 8 hour which battery installed procedure that may have to be followed when a new battery or one that has had something attached to negative battery post or even charged by off vehicle charger presumably when chargers ground is attached post and not to ground elsewhere. This procedure must inform charge controller of the actual characteristics of installed battery to prevent overcharging and also at what voltage to consider battery discharged to initiate charging or possibly when to determine when deep sleep is necessary.

Edit above in 2nd sentence to read 14.6v instead of 12.6v

I appreciate the info. Yea so this adapter lights up sequentially when on and at some point it will stop lighting up in sequence and just stay solidly lit. That’s when it stops working. I wanted one with an on off switch so I can turn my GoPro off or in whenever.
