Hey guys, just like the title says, my new maverick took a dump on me. Cylinders 2,4 were misfiring really bad. Brought it into ford. They told me yesterday about the problem and more tests have to be done to see if they have to replace the head gasket or possibly the whole engine? Really disappointing to have this experience with my first new vehicle. Anyone have experiences with this? Ive never heard of it happening.

I saw a tread where someone has/had to add a cup of so of coolant but I don't remember which engine. I just checked mine yesterday and the coolant was below the MIN mark. I've had it since 3/29/24 but no misfiring issues. I've ordered some coolant and will start keeping a better eye on the level.

Typical with a Blown Head Gasket. This though makes me wonder if when the motor was assembled in correct torque on head bolts OR defective head gasket. Perhaps a cracked Head due to poor casting of Aluminum. If torque spec missed or bad casting of head and more owners are bringing in for similar issues, I expect a TSB and a recall for inspection for certain range of VIN numbers. Since this engine is used across various Ford platforms it could be more wide spread.

You can usually determine this by looking at the poster signature to the left of the comment. In this case it looks like the OP has a hybrid.

How many miles? I'm at 4k and down on coolant as well. Initially there was a design issue with the battery coolant lines but they've fixed that circa mid-2023, so I have no idea where it's going.

If you're losing it bad enough to cause misfiring that is worse than mine, but these problems always start small.

Im a 6.4k. They're supposed to be calling sometime today, hopefully its just the head gasket without engine damage.

If caught early it should be fine. Sounds like it was.

Did you notice a small decrease early on or was this all at once? Just wondering what to expect. It's been such a small decrease over 4k it's not going to show up in an oil analysis. We have a 2010 Prius that has lost small amounts of coolant over its 15 year time as well.

So does that mean you had some engine codes available - since misfires for sure have 1 for each cylinder and overall?

And you can have an issue where while engine is running there's enough pressure to prevent leaks, but when off and coolant system still pressurized then it leaks.
With as often as hybrid engine is off but coolant pressurized - yikes.
That would normally show up in oil before it might even show up as white smoke.
Nothing like a cup of coolant in the oil over 3-4 months, ugh.

What was your mfg date?
Mine's 3/24.
About same 6.4K miles.
And coolant at minimum last fill-up, from full during July.
