Well, at least by me. I went to two different auto parts stores, and its not something they carry. Both said they would have to order it. Yea, I can do that too...

Has anyone else noticed if part stores by them carry the air filter?

Sorry, just had to rant.

I just stop by a local ford dealer parts dept and get air/oil/cabin filters, wiper blades etc. always have what I’ve needed. Or buy straight from ford online. Use ford pass points to pay either place. Just an option to consider

It seems like just about everything has to be ordered these days. No matter what year/make/model. What exactly do the auto parts stores have on their shelves, anyways?
yep, fairly normal these days. I averaged out the mileage all of my vehicles were driven in the past year and bought enough for a 3 year supply of what I would need for each of them. Stuck them on the shelf so I have what I need when I'm ready. Never had an issue with the local ford dealer parts dept not having the common supplies needed for routine maintenance. Easy Peazy

I wouldn't use anything but Motorcraft air and oil filters in mine. As a Ford Technician for many years I have seen what happens to aftermarket stuff and it isn't pretty.
Does that also go for a K&N drop in air filter?

Well I've always used strictly oem parts solely due to I don't want them to ever have an excuse if there is a warranty issue. Keep my receipts and detailed records. Also perform the maintenance way earlier than there recommended intervals. The prices are not much different than major competitors anyway, I'm not going to penny pinch anyways. I would imagine there are other quality parts, always heard good things on Wix products, to each their own for others preferences.

Local auto parts stores profit by selling parts you need urgently at inflated prices. I have never had an urgent need to replace an air filter. If it's not urgent, order it online 🤷‍♂️

There is no need to use Motorcraft parts nor have any service performed at a dealer in order to 'protect' a warranty. This is clearly stated in the Magnusson-Moss act.

A warranty claim cannot be denied because of a Fram or Purolator filter. (Purolator makes Motorcraft filters....). Also cannot be denied for using oil other than Motorcraft oil. (Conoco-Phillps makes Motorcraft oil).

The main trouble with the K&N filters is that they require the oil film to work properly and I have seen so many of them come in for an oil change and the filter is either totally dirty or worse yet dry. As long as the person using them keeps it serviced it can do a really good job, just make sure the rubber seal isn't damaged and is fitting properly, that can also be a problem with most aftermarket filters, I once saw a fram sucked up into the tube that feeds the intake and that made me want to slap the owner of that poor vehicle. Shouold be against the law to treat a vehicle like that.

At least using oem is one less argument I would possibly have to argue and the quality and price are reasonably the same. Easy choice for me

I run Mobil 1 extended life oil filters after watching some testing on You tube. Also have them prefilled with Valvoline ultimate 0/20 when changing. The ford filters are good but I think mobil one ranks higher.

A lot of myths are created because of biased and antidotal claims.
Very little actual hardproof.
There's a saying, '
It's not what you know.
It's what you can prove.'

In some manufacturing there may be a bad filter here and there. Those tend to be a one-off case. But someone hears about it and it becomes a basis for a story the rest of their life.
I've never bought a live Christmas tree because I've heard one caught on fire and burnt a house down.
Maybe it was the lights oh well that means no lights no real Christmas tree .
Back to my spinning stand, aluminum Christmas tree and color wheel lights.
