So I'm all done. Thanks to everyone in this thread. I started out with a XLT so I had to combine this tutorial with the one about adding sync to the XLT. I also went with a 12" Transit screen instead of the 13.2" escape screen. I prefer the taller more square aspect ratio. The only thing is it's just a tad smaller than the original radio cutout so it leaves a small gap. I plan on filling the gap with sugru unless someone has a better idea. Thanks again to everyone.

What APIM did you end up using? I was giving it a go with a 2021 F150 but I’m concerned about how I’ll update Sync since I assume OTA doesn’t work? Any tips?

Buying the newest apim you can find is usually the way to go. Ota updates do not work and there is no way to manually update at this time. As long as your apim is from a newer vehicle than you screen you should be good

Ended up grabbing a 2024 to play it safe and avoid having to work around updating. Thank you for the advice! For your harness, I see you used some extra wire to lengthen where you spliced in, was that necessary to get the proper length or would it be okay without?

Has anyone yet installed the Escape 3.2 inch screen, these all look like the 12-in screen from the Transit?

Yes serious question from the photos it's all hard to tell they sit so high they look more like 12-in screen.

You need to lengthen it. Apim is down low and it needs to reach to the dash

Do you remember what gauge wire you used and if it was red or black? Also you mentioned using two of the removed harness cables to plug into where the RCA is so the back up camera can pass through. Did you just plug them in on the one end or is it both sides? Little confused about that part. Really appreciate you taking the time to answer questions all these months later!

Could see if youtube would take it down with a DMCA request at https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/2807622?hl=en since they're using something you created without permission.

As promised, here's what my mounting looks like. In daylight (or maybe after the excitement), I'm a little less enthused about it since the screen isn't centered. I don't know if I'll bother adjusting it but just throwing that out.

But the nice part of aligning with the leftmost bolt is the left 2 plastic "posts" under the screen fit in and help hold the screen in place, so it's very secure like this. But it'll definitely need some sugru or something else to fill the right side gap.

Cutting off the middle metal part would be better than bending, since you don't need to break the plastic, but I was lazy and that was easier, it's covered with the top tray piece.

I'm about to start my project from a SYNC 2.5.
It's not necessary to break all the plastic to cut the middle bracket. The screen comes apart and you can work with just the metal piece.

Gauge doesn't really matter just as long as it's about the same size as the other stuff.

Yes remove the rca wires completely as well as the wires for the other pins mentioned in my original post. Then use the the other removed wires to replace the rca wires allowing it to just pass though

Sweet! Seems easy enough. Did you disconnect the battery before doing all of this as well? I was thinking of disconnecting the negative to be safe, but

I don't think I did but it probably wouldn't hurt
