Just found out today that not just any skinny funnel will make it past the 2nd “door”in filler. Only the one that came with the truck, odd. This truck never ceases to amaze me.

Yes. And I completely forget about the one that came with my truck (that I stuck under my back seat) when I tried to put gas in from a gas can and a non-maverick issued funnel. Oh well, lesson learned.

This style of fuel filler is pretty typical for vehicles using the "capless" design, unlike your 27 y/o Dakota that used a screw-in gas cap.

Yea . try to keep emergency ( hurricane generator fuel ) gas fresh but not with maverick because of fueling issues . to lazy to get special funnel out . so all extra fuel goes to motorcycle and Camry .

I never knew about this until I tried to pour gas into my 2011 F 150. What other vehicles have it besides Ford I wonder.

Yup, I believe my 2012 F-150 XLT was my 1st Ford with the funnel for the capless fuel system.

Google shows some GM, Honda & Chrysler models have a capless design, and would use a similar funnel.

I had a rental escape and couldn’t figure out why I couldn’t get my excess generator gas to go into the gas tank. Got my Maverick and saw the funnel and realized why the escape didn’t work. Never had this issue on any of my previous cars.

I have the older Gott brand fuel jugs with the flexible spout as pictured below, these spouts fit perfectly into the filler and don't require use of the funnel.

The capless fuel filler started in 2008, I always made a point to show customers the funnel location. Salespeople now days hand you the keys and run.

That's sad every salesman I've ever had has been willing and always showed me where and what everything did even though I already knew about half of it to 90% already did.

I always listened and paid attention in case they knew a trick I didn't know.
