absolutely do not wait until 150k.

do not buy a 'flush and fill' service. while under warranty, do have a Ford dealership do a simple drain and fill, and if you have any problems afterwards DO NOT take it back to that same Ford dealership.

take it elsewhere and have them diagnose. the reason I say that is that, unfortunately, at least 2 members of MTC have had their transmission fluid changed and then within a few thousand miles had issues, and then their transmissions completely failed necessitating replacement.

it shouldn't happen because it is relatively easy to service... but it has, and you should be cautious.

Yea . should change trans fluid at 60k miles or sooner if heavy duty usage imo . Fortunately I have a reliable trans shop that I use . I wouldn't have a flush done because screens not checked or filter changed if trans has one . Not all trans have a filter .

My plan is to do the first drain & fill at 5,000 miles, and then follow the 30,000 mile extreme use recommendation in the manual.

This is what I did.

Oil at 500.
Then RDU, PTU, Transmission, and motor oil at 5000.

Just clearing out the break in metals.
RDU and PTU were both underfilled from the factory.

I change Engine oil/Filter, PTU,Trans, RDU all every 5000 miles. Costs less than 2
$200. and easy to do it home.

Yeah the dealership said I needed transmission exchange, they did a flush, and now my truck that had 0 problems before this couldn't be driven off the lot.

Did it at 15k and that was last year so I’m due for a change at 30k. Which is soon approaching. I usually drive 24k a year so I gotta keep up with these change intervals.

I'm going to do simple drain and fill at 30k miles on all 3. I'm at 20,000 miles now (16 months... much higher than normal for me in that period..but we had ALLOT of back and forth to Mexico since this truck was new).

Thank you for this advice. I think I'll do this on my next oil change.

My opinion: if you do much towing, change at 60,000. Otherwise, change at 100,000. In all honesty, you'll probably be just fine at the 150,000 interval under normal, low load driving. But 100 000 is a good balance between peace of mind and overkill. 30,000 is definitely overkill on most modern transmissions operated under normal conditions.

Was just at the dealership getting another repair done and the service manager said 60K was way too early...
