I paid $100 for ordering a Maverick. I have another one coming from another dealer who is my relative so I will keep that one. Both are scheduled for Jan 6th build date.
I just need to tell the dealer to cancel the order as the dealer will not endure any loss since the build date is still a month away?

The dealer will still receive your Maverick if it has a build date. They can’t cancel now nor would they want to. They’ll sell it.

Depending on your dealer you may or may not get your $100 back.

You shouldn't have paid anything. Our dealer stopped taking deposits on Mavericks and Broncos long ago for liability reasons. Back when production was limited, they would not require deposits since there was no guarantee you'll get it in the first place. This way they didn't get stuck refunding customers who didn't receive their vehicles. And they haven't required them since. I guess every dealer is different.

Depends, the dealer nearest me does a $500 deposit that is fully refundable if you choose not to buy when the vehicle is delivered. The other dealership said they waived any deposits completely.

If yours didn't say refundable, probably worth asking them. They should be happy to get a 25 maverick on the lot to sell.

Yes, they are very different. My dealer requires a $1000 deposit. I am going to buy it anyway, so no big deal. But, as printed, they will keep the money if I turn down the buy.

Check with you state's New Car Dealer Assoc. and also state. Some states it is illegal to keep deposit if there is no transaction

What a ripoff. I would never do business with a dealer that requires a deposit. Especially since they can put your abandoned order on the lot and sell it to someone else.

I have a contract that would not allow that. Only dealer around me, so it is either or neither.

Why did you order 2?
Not sure who you were asking...I ordered Job 2 because I wanted the trailer assist package. This option is a game changer imho.

This is 100% against everything Ford allows, especially over the last couple of years. There may also be legal issues with having "non-refundable" deposits on anything depending on where you live.

The local dealer in my fairly small town didn't ask for a deposit when I ordered my Maverick, and even said that if it got here and I didn't want it that it wouldn't be a problem. I know the sales guys there pretty well, but this is only the second vehicle I've bought from them, my first being my 2017 F350 that I bought 7 years ago. They always treat me well though, even though I'm definitely not a high volume customer.

An aunt and uncle of mine own a dealership near the west coast, but that's a 1,500 mile drive each way. If they were closer I'd probably have ordered my Maverick from them, but definitely not them and another dealer at the same time. I'm not sure why you ordered the same thing from two different dealers, but who am I to judge.

In any case, the best thing to do is talk to your dealer directly. There's a good chance you'll get your deposit back, but even if you don't, $100 isn't a huge amount to lose these days. I doubt the dealer will have any trouble selling the truck you ordered, assuming it doesn't have a bunch of super weird options on it, so that works in your favor. Good luck.
