And how many people can't afford to bring their cars to a shop when the ABS light goes off, or they hear of the cost and say never mind, or they don't care anyway.
So the ABS isn't working.

From the limited cars I've been in with people - plenty.

From the cars I see on the road with other death trap items on them - plenty more likely.

From that damage I'm sure they wouldn't have done much anyway.
It's at most a 3 year old vehicle, I highly doubt the abs wasn't working. Saying someone locked up the wheels in 2024 just makes you sound uninformed.

Yea I read it and I’ve read the manual before but all it does is describe those features. It doesn’t say which of those or if all of those features come on which models or packages or versions of CP360. I built my mav with CP360 thinking it came with ACC but it didn’t. I’ve gotten into many hairy spots before and it’s never braked for me once so I don’t think I have emergency braking either. And your excerpt from the manual shows there being and option on my dash menu to switch active braking on or off but I don’t have that option in my menu, only to adjust the assist sensitivity. So it’s still very unclear what features I actually have or not.
Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) is standard on all Mavericks. It will brake only when a collision will happen, Usually long after you've got on your brakes. It minimizes crash severity in most cases. In a few cases it can avoid the hit. As others have said, it doesn't work above 75MPH, and may have been a last second swerve into a stopped vehicle the driver didn't see.

You can test your AEB braking using a lightweight/Large empty cardboard box.

Oh you made a general statement about what sounded like all autos on the road since ABS came out.

So I disagreed that cars coming with a safety items doesn't mean it's working correctly.
Shoot - forget extra safety items, regular driving items that keep you on the road are sketchy on many vehicles I see, driving in a manner usually that shows the driver doesn't care.

In regards to this situation, yes indeed ABS and no skidding and likely no stopping, manual slam on brakes or AEB.

Every winter you can see the people that think ABS will do something magical on slick roads.
I'm sure there is some mentality to that in regards to following distance too.

A lot of speculation without any facts. If she did an immediate lane change, all bets are off. Could be suicide, drunk, stoned, or a sleep. On those cases it doesn't make much if any difference what vehicle they are driving.

This is very close to me and i saw the aftermath live as i was driving my work truck back to our yard. There are major accidents in that area every day and most of them are distracted drivers or intoxicated.

Interesting. Sorry he got a Darwin Award. How did the pre-collision assist not activate and stand on the brakes? Or was he going so fast that locking up the brakes was not enough to avoid the truck?
For that kind of damage, the driver must have been traveling at a high rate of speed. It looks like the Maverick would have protected the driver from the initial crash and except for the fire, he might have survived.

Its the access road, the highway is usually shut down to 1 lane from 9pm to 6am m-f. Most people haul ass down the access roads or at least try to and they are the ones that cause wrecks. This particular access road has a speed limit of 40 mph. I see it every night on my way back into our yard.

that's helpful context. in my opinion, 40 mph into the back of that semi seems unlikely to cause the severity of the crash aftermath shown.

Wow. I have to say driving has become much more of an anxiety producing activity thanks to those idiots who speed and weave in and out of traffic. When I see that, my body and mind go into an anxious expectation of a forthcoming crash and how it might effect my vehicle and passengers. Driving is now exhausting.

All the crash protection or "crumple zone" is in the front half of the vehicle, forward of the firewall. It really appears that the front of the truck missed most of the impact. The damage looks to be mostly to the windshield and the top. Basically, the driver has zero chance of surviving that. Unfortunately, the hood of most normal-height vehicles fits neatly underneath the back of a tractor trailer.

She hit the semi hard enough to disconnect the truck from the trailer. That's not a 40 mph hit.
