Another one down - 2023 Maverick Lariat rear-ended and totaled

In late August, I was rear-ended while sitting at a stoplight. I wasn't hurt, but the crumple zones did their jobs and sacrificed themselves. I got notified that it was totaled last week. 8900 miles. Once the insurance wrangling is done, it's off to Dovi Motors in Cortland, NY to order a '25. I only wish that Cyber Orange was still available!

That sucks. It is not like the color of your truck blended in with the road or the surroundings. How the heck did they miss you being stopped?
I don't know if the hitch-mounted
shock absorbing step bumper would have helped. It is only good up to 30 mph.

that truck in ny if in nyc will be bought the way it is with salvage title.

We're at a point where there is enough tech on our vehicles that if someone is approaching in a way that looks like it's gonna be an impact, there should be an audible warning too (for them) and not just brake lights. Someone looking at their phone would at least hear an audible warning. They aren't going to see brake lights.

We're at a point where there is enough tech on our vehicles that if someone is approaching in a way that looks like it's gonna be an impact, there should be an audible warning too (for them) and not just brake lights. Someone looking at their phone would at least hear an audible warning. They aren't going to see brake lights.

Why should technology be in charge for taking care of something people shouldn't be doing in the beginning?
I prefer more in line of what's being done in the video

That's the UK. In the US of A I see cops looking at their phones while driving all the time. I've never seen one pull someone over for looking at their phone. Reality and how do you deal with it? In the UK they actually do off-road diesel checks. They actually check your tank to make sure you aren't using off-road diesel on the roads. That's how "in your business" they are.. We don't really have that.

ins companies don't just total vehicles on a whim - they're not really interested in writing someone a $28,000 check if they don't need to.

this is definitely true. all these crumple zones, the ever continuing push for safety above any concerns for repairability or cost, are pushing vehicles that get totaled far easier than years past.
