I ordered my 2022 XLT EcoBoost FWD in Velocity Blue in November of 2021. Truck arrived end of July 2022. I kept it simple with the only option being a trailer hitch. MSRP was just over $25k. Dealer was fantastic in that they didn't try to sell me anything and didn't charge over MSRP.

This is my daily driver and I use it for grocery delivery as well. Hence why I have hit 60k miles already. After just over two years of ownership, here are a few takeaways about this truck in no particular order:
  1. Gas mileage is fantastic. Because I have a lot of idle time, it is difficult to calculate actual mileage, but I only spend $175 a week doing what I do. When I'm not doing grocery delivery I tend to average 26mpg. On the highway I have gotten 32mpg.
  2. Infotainment system is very glitchy. However, since I have added a cheap wireless adapter, it has gotten much better.
  3. Factory speakers are not very good, but tolerable if you aren't an audiophile. I plan on upgrading speakers and adding a small subwoofer and amp.
  4. The blue dash plastics suck. They scratch very easily. Kids backpacks have scratched the piss out of the glovebox.
  5. The rubber stops on the tailgate came off. They are held on by those little black clips. I think bolts would have been a better option.
  6. I to have replaced a windshield.
  7. Maintenance is super cheap. My local Ford dealer will come pick my truck up, do the Works package, wash and detail, and bring it back to me for $110. Because of how much I drive, this ends up being about every other month or so. Only other thing I have done is put new tires on. Factory tires lasted me 50k.
  8. EcoBoost engine makes it fun to drive. Plenty of power to zip around town all day. And is excellent on the highway.
  9. Spacious and comfortable interior.
  10. Great visibility at night, although I think the bright lights don't illuminate far enough. Just my opinion.
  11. If I were to order again I would stick with the XLT as I think that's the sweet spot, but I would order AWD this time and add the rear plugins. Kids complain they have nowhere to charge their phones except a long cord up front. AWD simply because of me delivering. I haven't had any issues or gotten stuck, but some people's driveways are definitely more suited for AWD.
  12. Adaptive Cruise control would have been a nice addition, but stepping up to the Lariat was not worth it to me.
  13. Forward Collision Alert is not very good. It likes to go off going around curves when traffic is coming towards you.
  14. All the recalls....
  15. Overall, I love the truck. I have owned mostly Honda's before this. Traded a 2018 Accord for this truck. Mine was an LX and had Adaptive Cruise control and all the safety features standard. I think Ford could have made Adaptive Cruise control and the CoPilot 360 standard on these trucks and not had to raise the price too much. I understand that cost cutting to get to the original price point.
  16. As far as the 2025's I think Ford has missed the original intention of this truck. I speced a 2025 XLT as close to what I have now and it is $7k more. Granite that's also with AWD since you can no longer get the EcoBoost with FWD, but still that's a huge jump in price. And still no Adaptive Cruise control or Copilot 360 standard.

For the back seat passenger, I added this charger. Simple and cheap.

Very nice….

The EB FWD has become a bit of a unicorn, given it’s no longer available. But it will always get better mileage than an AWD, and given new model price hikes it is definitely worth driving this one another 60k+!

What "cheap wireless adapter" did you get???

I actually got mine from the TikTok Shop for $16.55. It was on sale at the time and they gave me a special coupon too. It works well, you just have to acknowledge two messages every time on start up which is kind of annoying.

There are lots of cheap knockoffs out there- the originals are Motorola M1 and "Android auto wireless".

On his display screen shows 19.9 mpg. My AWD gets that up to 22 mpg city only. Longer country roads up to 25 mpg. AWD drive is only when it kicks in.

The only reason my display says 19.9 mpg is due to all the idle time I have doing grocery delivery, which was mentioned in the first point of my post. My truck basically runs all day when I'm working as I don't shut it off while waiting on orders or between deliveries.

Ok. My 2022 ecoboost with 4k package only has 8k miles. So my mpg isn't great. Lots of stop and go. So all I was saying is to the fwd vs awd comment. Enjoy your truck. I'm enjoying mine. Thanks

I have both the Motorola M1 and the AAwireless. Both are good but I recommend the AAwireless. Hasn't disconnected where the Motorola M1 has disconnected a couple of times. Just my experience.

Interesting write up. I don’t have any of the problems that you do. The Bang and Olufsen sound system sounds fabulous. The stereo interface works fine. Apple car play works fine, the navigation is fine, but the voice recognition is a little weak, but still works. My adaptive cruise control with lane keep assist messes up a fair bit, but it’s not measurably worse than my Tesla. So what are comparing it to, another companies’ car’s or are you comparing to your idea of perfection? My forward collision alert / emergency braking is fine. To me it is triggering a smidge too late. Mine is a 2024, so maybe they shortened the alert distance to prevent that “round the corner” problem. And I’m completely ok with the interior plastics. I think it looks great, but I got the lariat, so it has quite a few elements that make it look nicer. And I don’t have dogs or kids in my car to destroy stuff. Those will damage any interior, Mercedes, BMW, Toyota, it doesn’t matter. They will make a 2 year old car look like a 10 year old car on the inside.

To me, the takeaway is: don’t buy the stripped down version of the Maverick, or you will regret it.

Although I have the Lariat, I can vouch for your comment about the Ecoboost engine itself. It's fantastic and makes it fun to drive. It has plenty of power and torque once that turbo kicks in. And I love hearing the induction noise when it does. Sounds like a mini-diesel.😁

Also, it's the smoothest 4-cylinder I've ever driven. You wouldn't even know the engine was running. It's very refined for what it is. Sometimes it's jerky on cold starts but once it's warmed up, buttery smooth. And since they added slightly more sound deadening for 24, it's a little quieter inside (the inclusion of foam pads inside the front door jambs that were missing in my 22)

The fuel economy could be better considering the size of vehicle and engine but not bad either. I have the FX4 package so AWD. Despite this, I still average 24-26 mpg city and 31-32 mpg highway. The hybrid is where these Mavericks excel but the consistent quality control issues/recalls, especially in the first model year, scared me away from them.

I'm glad you're enjoying your Maverick overall. I am as well. It does everything I want it to with no fuss. It's good looking, affordable and comfortable. These attributes translate into a great daily driver.

I’ve a 22 lariat AWD and a 23 lariat hybrid both are great trucks and no problems other than noisy dash on both of them. AWD averaging 33mpg over 37k miles and hybrid 46mpg over 13k miles. Love the adaptive cruise control and copilot 360 work great, B& O radio sounds just fine to me. I’ve got a little more bass dialed in than treble.

Haha, yes it does sound like a mini diesel when you first start it. Or a sewing machine. But you are right, once warmed up, it's very quiet. I too shyed away from the hybrid for the same reasons. I've thought about ordering a '25 Hybrid since you can now get AWD, but I'm still not convinced it won't leave me stranded somewhere. Besides, I like the turbo noises😁
